Hi Guys .new to the forum.as above keen to know how hard is it to get hold of a viva rack and pinion over here as I'm converting my lj torana 4dr to LHD. I am member of the GMH TORANA forum in australia and been told by the gurus here the vivas rack would be the same with a few simple mods to the kframe(brackets) it would bolt up.i would be keen to purchase one sometime in the new yr if available.i gather postage would be a killer but Has anyone got any pics they could show of said part ....any help would be greatly appreciated Cheers Maz

Partial photo only I'm afraid. I've got a spare rack in the garage which I can dig out and photograph sometime.

Thanks for putting pic up Taurus much appreciate ''Hmm" its a little bit different from what i expected.I did forget to put the what model i was told to look for"Tutts" Is this rack out of the HA-HB model?. and just to make sure is it LHD .it does appear to be similar in design . The rack when installed into the torana is on a bit of an angle i will throw up a pic so you get an understanding how it is on the front kframe. Your rack sort of looks it bolts up flat.maybe i do need another pic of how it sits on the front subframe to determine if it will bolt up propper

I don't think a left hand drive Viva rack is going to be too common over here in all honesty as we drive on the left side of the road and have RHD cars! The other important thing, the distance between the rack ball joints needs to be the same as your original rack otherwise you will have some geometry issues.

Yeah thought that buddy only after looking at some of the threads.i first googled HA-Hb viva and a dudes viva popped up on here and thought it was a yanky forum as his is LHD.its orange and the forum member is jpsmit.i have given him a pm (personal message) and has not peplied as yet.maybe i have done it wrong being new to this site.i noticed bug--r is a curse word lol haha
the geometry wont be too much of a factor .i can either change the steering rod length or throw in a couple of uni joints. alot of guys here put 8 bangers in the holden torana and modify the rack to get around pipes etc to get it to work.

Not sure you understand the potential suspension geometry problem unless we're confusing terminology here. The distance between the steering rack knuckles if you like, (not tie rod ends) is a critical measurement that also has an important relationship to the mounting points of the wishbones. If that isn't correct you can get what is known as bump steer. That cannot be corrected by changing the steering rod length. This perhaps explains what I mean better:- www.onallcylinders.com/2014/06/27/correct-bump-steer/

Hi Bud.truthfully I'm not really knowledable in this area.maybe if you guys have the measurement of lengh and also the part no steering ratio and track width i will be able to check in the parts book and measure to see if indeed it will work
cheers Maz

Someone with a Viva rack may be able to help on that. Just thought I'd point out the possible pitfall of using something that isn't dimensionally the same width.

Yeah thanks bud.i get it now what your referring too.if the inner ball joints don't run paralell with the ca's (control arms) zero bump steer wont be attained. A forum guy(Stephen) has told me there is a few guys making bump steer kits which are adjustable tie rod ends. And Dave has drawn a diaghram, measurements for me, of the distance between inner ball joints and tie rod arms .i don't know how exact this is but can be used as a rough reference 515mm between balljoints of rack 302mm for ea steering rod arms. wish i could put up his diagram.I'm hopeless on computer lol Maz
