Hi guys... slightly new to here so apologies if late replying or not doing things the right way! Picked up a fiat 126 around this time last year as part of a restoration project but with a twist.. involving body dropping the car to sit on the seals also correcting pa8ntwork issues and so on.
However!.......
After havingreceived the car back since i have decided now to have a play with the engine to put something with a bit more ooph to it so after various research i came across a thread with a chap who fitted a fire engine one to his fiat 500. Was curious as to wether there is anythreads on here that show any process of the conversion taken place?
As I'm concerned about who to go to for adapter plates to convert the gearboxes together.
also the bellhousing that needs to be useds?
And wether the shafts line up?
If anyone has any information or can pass me on to someone who may know
Many thanks!
Will have pictures to follow!

I'm not quite understanding this, a fire engine engine, as in a Volvo FL6 type fire engine turbo/supercharged engine? Isn't that nearly as big as a Fiat 126? This I've got to book mark.

From what I understand of these things, the gearboxes won't last long with any more power. The ones that get raced usually have a vw beetle gearbox fitted. There's plenty of engine swapped 126s out there but rarely using the original box.
The other option might be using the original fiat fwd box with the engine.

Yeah was going to uprate the internals in the gearbox to to maybe give it more chance to cope with the higher powered engine

Yup - a real Eats, Shoots and Leaves moment for me as well. A FIRE engine is big and red and goes Nee Naw Nee Naw. A F.I.R.E. engine is something else.

Your best bet is to use google translate and have a look on some polish websites. They have been modifying 126s for years over there and have plenty of companies that supply parts for tuning. I have seen some converted to use the motor from a cinquecento spot.

www.budowaswapow.com/index.php?id=sklep/swap/swapthis should be a good start , really good service and really good value for money , but he does not speak english. I use a polish regular that visits my bar to translate and make phonecalls , maybe you know someone like that too to help you

f126cr Your car looks epic by the way. Just clearcoat as is... have you got a buildthread in the readers rides section? Love to read about it. 126'es are my favorite car !!! How did you get it so low? re designed inner arches?

I've been led to believe a 4cyl engine won't fit in the 126..? That's why i was looking at alternatives myself when considering one.
I'd decided on a carb'd 13B rotary engine, before abandoning the idea for another Polo instead. Or at least, postponing the idea.
