This listing is for my Golf GTI which I am selling due to lack of use. It seems a waste for it to be sat around over the winter rather than being enjoyed.
I bought the car last November (full V5 in my name and address) as I’d always fancied one but never got round to it. Since owning the car it’s been spot on. It’s great fun to drive, not to be confused with the gutless 8v GTI and amazingly good on petrol, I easily got over 40 on the motorway without even trying and 30+ around town. The 2.0 ABF engine is a great lump, happy to be lazy and economical but really comes alive when you give it some revs.
The car has always been reliable for me, I’ve done a few long distance treks in it and it’s never missed a bit. Since I’ve had it I’ve done a few jobs-
- Oil and filter change
- New front tyres, still like new, only done about 200 miles on them.
- Replacement starter motor (Refurbished Bosch OE unit)
- Replaced both front wishbone/subframe bushes.
- MOT’d the car this month- Passed with no advisories- Due 5th November 2016.
There is masses of history with the car and it’s clearly had a lot spent on it over its life. In addition there are all the MOT’s going back to 2000. The car has benefited from a stainless exhaust (not too loud) and there is service sticker for the cam belt being done at 121181 miles.
While the car is a well loved example there are a few blemishes to be expected with the age. There is a small and non structural area of rust at the bottom of the wheel arch between the driver’s door, and a couple of paint blemishes; one on the bonnet and another tiny chip on the rear wing which I stupidly did! The only other bits worthy of a mention are the missing trim strip off the passenger side (the narrow piece which goes over the sideskirt) and a little hole in the drivers seat bolster. It drives as it should do and has always been good to me, there is some wear on 1-2 syncro as most of these now have but it’s not excessive in my opinion, I soon got used to it.
Straight Mk3 16v GTI’s are getting more and more scarce and given the way Mk2 values are going represent a real bargain, the last real GTI before they went soft and flabby with the MK4 onwards! This one hasn't been ruined with after market wheels, suspension and silly mods and apart from the after market steering wheel, gear knob and handbrake is exactly as it left the factory with just a modern face off Kenwood (USB and Aux) CD stereo to bring it up to date.
I will get a full set of photographs up this week but viewing is encouraged and welcomed. Please just get in touch! Cash on collection. Car is at my home address which is 5 minutes from J6 of the M5 (Worcester)
