For sale: A genuine example of the world famous Mercedes 190e, presented in the really smart Malachite Metallic with a lovely beige leather interior. It took me a long time to find such a well specified car: examples with both factory fitted air conditioning and leather seats are rare beasts. When complemented with electric windows, sunroof, central locking, ABS, airbag, pirelli tyres and iconic ‘flying saucer’ wheel trims, I’m sure you can understand why I fell in love with this car.
The car has been scrupulously maintained over the years, and comes with a comprehensive service history. This includes, but is not limited to:
A fully stamped Mercedes Maintenence Booklet.
Every MOT since its first in 1996.
A good deal of receipts for works carried out from new.
This particular car is a very late example (September 1993) with the 2.0 fuel injected engine, the super rare 5 speed manual gearbox, 149,000 documented miles and 10 months MOT.
Since owning the car, I have set out on a series of works to make the Mercedes as good as possible. Just 1,000 miles ago the car was treated to a full service (New Oil, Oil Filter, Air Filter, Fuel Filter, Spark Plugs, HT Leads), a new rocker cover gasket, a new auxilary belt, fresh anti-freeze and a new breather pipe. Since then I have replaced the indicators with original amber lenses, the side repeaters have also had the same treatment, and I have replaced both the radiator cap and the oil filler cap as precautionary measures.
To drive, the Mercedes 190e is simply fantastic. By modern standards it’s a narrow car, so is perfectly suited to city driving. On the open road, the manual 5 speed gearbox has longer legs than the 4 speed automatic, and is running at just 2,700 rpm at 70mph. The ‘magic carpet ride’ of the W201 is famous in both legend and reality, and it’s simply a joy to be behind the wheel.
Unlike nearly every other example for sale, this car has absolutely no rust present on the bodywork. Up close, however, you will notice 1 or 2 small blemishes. These do not detract from what is a fantastic car.
I am selling the car as, with a large family, I now require the practicality of a 7 seater. If I was keeping the car, the next items for attention would be some new tyres and the replacement of the under bonnet sound pad. I have just purchased this part from Mercedes-Benz, and it will be included with the car.
In essence, this is a handsome and genuine example of Mercedes engineering at its finest. I am of the firm opinion that this car, at this price, will be hard to beat.
