Here for sale is a 1972 Reliant Scimitar SE5a.
Non runner. Hasn't been on the road since 1996. No paperwork or keys but does have nice original black and silver reg plate along with VIN plate etc. The pictures, for a change make it look worse than it is. I haven't tried to clean it up, it is what it is.
Ford 3.0 V6 engine is in place and turns over freely, only appears to be missing the alternator and radiator. It was driven to where it sat for nearly 20 years so there should be no reason why it won't run again after some recommissioning. The rest of the under bonnet parts like radiator cowls seen in the picture will come with the car. The autobox is present and the selector moves freely. The exhaust system is complete, in good condition and has stainless rear boxes - possibly more?
All suspension and brake components are complete and still fitted to the car.
The fibreglass body, apart from the paintwork, is in good condition with no damage. Obviously the paintwork will need to be completely re-done. I think an hour with a good pressure washer would see the exisiting paint removed ready for light prep work then fresh paint. All glass is present and correct, the front doors have opening quarterlights and a nice pair of Paddy hopkirk mirrors. Most of the chromework can be saved with some polishing, some will need to be replaced.
Front lights have been removed but are in good condition and included. Rear lights are present.
The chassis is in remarkably good, solid condition with only work being needed to the front outriggers and the front 8 - 12 inches of the rails that run under the sills of the car. This is all very accessible and of simple construction - no complex shapes to reproduce and no stripping required to do the work.
The wheels I would say were refurbished at some point as they are completely ding free and look to have polished rims, the centres do have some very light lacquer peel and corrosion, nothing that wouldn't easily clean up.
The interior is complete apart from the rear seat bases. The black cloth headlining is in very good condition. Door cards will need some work. Dash and gauges are complete. Nice Mountney steering wheel is included.
All the parts in the pictures are included, lots of small things like boot and bonnet lettering, front grill, centre console, arm rests, new alternator bracket, oil cooler, expansion tank, original carpet and mat set plus lots more.
Whilst this does require some work to be back on the road it is in my opinion a very achievable and worthwhile project with the vast majority of the parts included. The few that are missing are easily and inexpensively sourced from ebay and elsewhere. Half a days welding would see the underside completely solid again then it's just stripping and recommissioning of mechanical parts followed by the paintwork and interior refit. Then you'd have a nice tax exempt car to cruise around in next summer.
Available for viewing undercover and under lights most of the time with some notice in SN7 near Faringdon. The car is taking up space for an upcoming house build so I won't be able to hang on to it for long. PM me with a contact number if interested. You will need a trailer or transporter to take away.
