That's really nice. Its better looking than a Minor, far less austere.

I'm thinking perhaps the morris is too old for retro rides...or too ordinary...perhaps it needs a roofrack and some rust paint and sticker bomb it...or perhaps its just me thats too old

i think its me thats feeling old..just turned 60... iv been building cars ,bikes, scooters for 45 years... i bought the MO because my pop is taking too log to get finished, and i was fed up turning up to shows in my qashqai... I'm doing it up in the same style as my last minor ( #17 )... my new visor and halogen headlights have arrived..and if this rain ever stops,i'll get them fitted.. i DO think the MO is too old for retro car "scene"...perhaps more fitting with the "classic scene"...most of the builds I'm reading on here now are running the rust paint, stretched tyres, sticker bombs, junk on the roof rack styles... [ perhaps i was jealous of the 53 plate golf with rusty plastic bumpers and stickers that took "best classic" at a local car show...and a really clean sierra taking runner up...] cheers..."moaning old git" al

...most of the builds I'm reading on here now are running the rust paint, stretched tyres, sticker bombs, junk on the roof rack styles... I think you must be on a different forum to me as literally not a single thread on the first page of Reader's Rides that contains the things you describe. *n

In fact, of the top five threads, two are from the fifties, two are from the sixties and the other is a genuinely rotten lada.

Too old to be retro? Nope. I regard 'retro' as a term that includes classics. The owners' club does an adaptor to fit a B series to the stock box, but the 5-bearing MGB lump had a different bolt pattern. There was a 3-bearing MGB lump, but they're pretty rare these days (££££). A 1622 motor from a Farina will give you a 50% power hike even in stock form, and that's what I'd be tempted to go for, possibly with a bigger carb on a Marina/Sherpa manifold.

hi penski...i agree with what you say about the content..i said the ones that I was reading...i don't read every thread, nor am i on here every day...but between here and the other sites i frequent I'm just seeing this trend...and i just don't get it... i love cars ...all genre...but just at that grumpy place in life, where going to a car show and looking at the qashqai owners club stand does nothing for me...(nor PT cruisers ) the thing is...every ones nostalgia is different...i was born in 55...the first cars i remember were my dads...an anglia,an ha viva, and a mk1 cortina...but the commonest car around was the moggie, and ive always liked them...so i prefer 50s/60s stuff..i like the hotrod fords...the Ts,As,Bs..but that must have came from watching early TV...
(most )Kids nowadays arent interested in MY NOSTALGIA.. . last week i was offered a Lada saloon...really nice..on mirafiori rostyles...just about to go for it,when i remembered just how abysmal they were to drive when new...i borrowed one with 13 miles on the clock and could hardly turn the steering wheel...i don't know if they ever got any better
moggyman...id like to hear more about both the adapter and the 1622 cc engine swaps...i need a swap i can do in a weekend...
cheers...al

sounds good...i do intend to get to a few more things further afield next year...I'm fitting a tow bar to the oxford ,and i can easily tow my combicamp trailer, maybe even my 1973 sprite caravan... I'm getting over throat cancer and still bothered with fatigue...i plan a lot of trips but more often than not I'm not well enough on the day...so hopefully, next year,i'll be up for a few more...

I read about the adaptor plate in a buyer's guide (might have been in Classic Cars Weekly). Just tried looking on the club website, but you need to be a member to access a lot of it.

one thing we don't see allot of on retro-rides is people replying to their own threads complaining noone is interested in their car what makes a popular thread, well that is some interesting psychology i've not yet worked out excuse my ignorance, but what is an MO ? is it a slightly longer, more portly 1000?

hi darren...complaining...i don't know...confused...maybe... I'm still on morphene after the cancer treatment,I'm still up half the night, with sickness etc...and to be honest i do get these wee bouts of what is probably depression... plus i just turned 60...and ive noticed i really am a grumpy ole git...lol i read through a lot of forums [ something to fill the long nights..], and i was just feeling that the sticker bombing ,fake rust guys ,were just not trying...doing it to be different, but all looking the same..( a bit like goths )... [theres one club up here, near glasgow ,they go on run outs during the summer, and both go to ,and hold car shows...but you cant tell where the car park ends and the car show starts...these guys are "showing" they're daily drivers...does my nut in...but these guys love it ,and if thats what they wanna do...well ...who am i to say no...]...no i don't want to join with my qashqai lol... To be honest I want to start modifying the MO,but i already have a project car...and theoretically this MO is just a bog standard old car...which if I'm honest,by my own rational, makes it nothing to write home about... i love hotrods and customs, and i always shunned guys running old "standard" yanks, wondering what they were doing at car shows...until i bought my chevy impala...the best car i have ever owned... but now here i am ,turning up at car shows in, what is,a bog standard car...it does bug me...it is bugging me... I'm thinking its too good to do "what i have to do"...a lot of classic buffs would probably love it in its current state...but I'm itching to stick a SBC 350/350 set up in it...and back half it...but because of health issues i know id need to get it done...and I'm already doing that with my pop project... YES its nice to get any feedback ...good preferably lol... suppose I'm a show off at heart...hence my initial post i suppose...but with the later post i was trying to gauge just where the MO fitted in..in what scene ? forgive me if i sound like a curse word...I'm not getting much sleep lol cheers...al

sorry darren...i was going on like a budgie....re your question ...the MO is a morris minor on steroids...designed to be a proper 5 seater...with perhaps 6 at a push...fitted with a 1476cc "plodder" of an engine...doesnt go anywhere fast..but always gets there...bench leather seats front and rear,4 speed column change... and made between 1948 and 1954...and just a bit more "plush" than the minor... well it would be plush if it had a bloomin heater...lol ...definitely on my to do list...(round smiths heater sitting here ) really roomy...AND these cars were rust proofed during manufacture...seems to have worked quite well...car is solid...
cheers...al
