1996 Xantia Activa VGC, £1100ono Devon
Velour interior, sunroof, a/c, 124,420 miles, mot 23 Apr 16
An exceptionally well looked after car in very good condition
In good old RetroRides style after a year plus of my ownership/custodianship of my Xantia Activa, it's time for it to move on. Bought from a RetroRider last summer, he
bought from a chap on the French Car Forum a year previously, who was a massive Citroen nut, he apprently had 13 of them. We have three French cars so not quite mad but we are keen.
It's been my careful daily (I've a couple of others : ) I've loved my time in it and have done 10,000 miles in 18 months in style, comfort and pace. It's in great condition inside and out with everything working, roof, windows, locks, fans etc...
We have worked with the local Citroen specialists (SMs, XMs, DSs Xantias etc...) to get it in and keep it in top fettle. Gavin at Salters Devon, will happily talk to people about the car, he's tempted by it but has 20 ish French cars already! During my custodianship it has had a new clutch, most of the piping (and the junctions) re-placed, four good quality matched tyres, 7.5mm on the back, 6mm on the front, two new rad fans (there are two). Prior to us it had the spheres replaced, all are currently working well. It looks fabulous - No rust, it's galvanised, odd chip on the bonnet (but hardly anything compared to a modern car/paint job). No leaks into the car or out of any lines, pipes, engine housings....
These are amazing cars, fully active suspension so no braking dive, accelerating lift and corners flat and on rails. So far ahead of it time, currently 30 on the road and 40 sorned so 73 ish left(?).
If driven carefully, then the book figures for MPG can be beaten, and 30mpg can be had out of it.
A couple of appropriate mods from standard condition - the fitting of a mechanical boost valve for added go. This modification, gives the sort of power the activa should have had from the factory (approx 170bhp according to the french car forum). Set properly, it still feels like a low pressure turbo (it is) but with a little more umph and no down side. The second mod which returns the Xantia to the "proper" Citroen brake feel, this was done by removing the spring setup and replacing it with a solid link.
