The smoke screen was a loose rocker shaft. I installed RSR rocker shaft seals (I don't know why all 911's didn't just come with these) and retorqued them all, set the valves, and put in new valve cover gaskets before selling the car to Bruce and Bryn.
There might be a small leak somewhere still but nothing like the 007 esque smoke screen that got us black flagged from that race.
Oh, and it was a pleasure racing with you guys in Brainerd this past summer. Andrew and I were in the orange Porsche 914 with the Nissan V6 power plant.

What a thread! I found it because it was voted the best thread in the awards, and I totally understand why. There's only one thing - what happened next??? Cheers Duncan

As a newbie to RR I have been scanning various threads to see what grabs me ... and this one certainly has done! What was going to be a half-hour skim has turned into a six hour marathon - I couldn't stop. It's been said many times, but I can only add the same comments: superb writing - I can only imagine the suspense created in real time - and awesome photography.
I can only agree with the sentiments of the original post; despite not having a passport, over the years I have purchased two cars from Italy and one from America ... only now do I realise how I have missed out by taking the rational route of having the cars shipped over. I am actively looking for a new purchase, and as before I have not been restricting my search to UK cars, but it looks like I should arrange for a passport before I go any further ...

I know this story and I was still excited with the anticipation. Feck, I'd read about your trip to tesco just in case it turned into an adventure!

Thought I'd share this, thanks again to Bruce. Love it. Oh my god O.O I just finished this thread and had the idea of asking for a hi-res picture for a print. Was dicussing the topic of "what to put on the new blank wall" last week and told a friend of mine, i would hang just pictures up which really hit me. And the pictures in this thread did hit me. The one you chose and this one i74.photobucket.com/albums/i251/bruceholder/911/Chump/287A3700.jpg~original especially. Whats necessary to get one of the pictures? I really need to know (and there goes my rationality...) Great thread btw, made me register to this forum!

You nutter! Last time I looked it was black and shiny and now it's got the rats. I had to back track to catch up with all the developments. What a tale well told and a real character ride you've got yourself. What are you going to pull out of the hat next?

Yeah he is just super busy as ever I believe. I would like to ask again: Is Bruce alright other than "just" being super busy? I don't think what he's been up to is very retro - but it is admirable and he has taken a fair bit of time on it
