Anyone know of a cheap / common oil filter that has a standard 1/2" BSP thread ? I assume it'll be an older vehicle. The reason - to work as an air filter / silencer on a compressor

Hi, I've done a cross reference check on one of the filter manufacturers site and the only filter with a BSP thread is sized 1 1/4" BSP which is a bit big. I did think about a K&N type engine breather filter but I think it might be a bit too small and restrictive. In the past we have done the same thing and used an air filter off a small car like an early mini or the like with a made up adaptor.

Would you not be able to find something like that for a old commercial / truck engine etc , perhaps try staionary engine spares ?

Oil filters are a recognised method of quieting the inlet "roar" of a compressor as well as being a better filter than the normal foam that seems to be used. My compressor is a twin cylinder ABAC with a rectangular siamesed port instead of the more common single round threaded so I'll have to make an adapter anyway.

1/2" BSP and 1/2" NPT are generally regarded as interchangeable by most industries. the diameter and thread pitch are the same, its only the thread form is slightly different.
