Is a mk3 fiesta retro, the thing is i bought it last year for the GF to learn in and now she's learning in my metro.I've tried no end of times to sell it as is but no luck so far.So it got me thinking if i could start a thread on it and turn it into something cool.It runs on diesel and with the rules changed on the fuel tax for veg oil it could be worthwhile doing it up.I want to lower it paint it matt black with rattle cans and a lime green flash down the side.
Opinions?

why is it so important for a car o be retro, lupos and cinqs arent retro but i love em both and i know a few others on here do. stop worrying and starting moding the little beast.
could i just suggest matt black below the waist line and ninja green above it?

In Retro-Land there are no 'Scene Police'. Well there are, but b0ll0cks to them. Just do it, remember the old Hot Rod Magazine mantra.... 'Dare To Be Different'

I guess it matters for this site inparticular, though we are generally open minded and keen to see a car transformed or loved. My personal opinion is just like yours TRG, if I like it then cool, not always retro, but personally that does not matter to me. i like old cars. in honesty a lot of 90's and modern tat bores me. I doubt anyone would like to see my Pug 407 here - if I got one, unless of course I modded it beyond extremity - tastefully... still would not be retro unless i went to town on chromie wheels and metal flake paint job or some concoction. some good vibes here , there is a line in the sand and for everyone it seems to be different.

I wouldn't think of it as retro myself, just old. I don't think the mk3 has come out the other end of the 'old banger' tunnel yet. This is of course just my own personal opinion and thoughts. However, that just means you should have no fear in going to town with whatever you wish to do to it. So go for that slamed matt black and lime green striped splender. Sounds like fun!

Sounds like a good plan to me. And a good plan is a good plan, regardless of whether the end result fits into a certain pidgeon hole or not! I was thinking earlier about how many people there are in certain scenes, conforming by trying so hard not to conform.....

"Retro" a synonym for "landfill" now? The only retro thing about a fiesta is the rattley 1960's technology under the bonnet. Oh and it's ability to rot like a 1972 Fiat 124 at the bottom of the north sea.
Once again, I shall cite my "rule"... when skanky families in my 'hood stop driving them to Asda sans MoT tax etc, they will henceforth be acceptable.

Who cares, do it anyway cause I quite like mk3 fiesta, slam it low and rat it up ;D The car might not be retro, but it can have retro styling!

"Retro" a synonym for "landfill" now? I don't think that is in the spirit of Retro Rides. Just cos they are popular, cheap to get at and basic, does that make them landfill? Perhaps, not heavy-weight lustworthy Retro, yet, but with the oldest examples over 18 years old, offering the same sort of package as the original MK1's they are not exactly mega modern. yes theres scallies and single moms, dole queue enthusiasts, and spotty first car boy/girl racers in em and yeah they have hung around, but why not have fun with em? still plenty of 'bargain motorists' in the shape of the uninsured and scallies daily visable in Metro's BMW's and old Novas, I don't see the prob. This poor lad got chased off before he'd even taken his jacket off retrorides.proboards86.com/index.cgi?board=readersrides&action=display&thread=1156015542&page=1Edit PS, forgot to mention, I'm astonished how little rust and welding I have found on mine so far, I don't know why, sure i'll find a bit more eventually! ;D a shock after owning two crusty old MK1's that were younger than this at the time.

Well we can all have our own opinion. And mine is that a fiesta Mk3 is BILGE.

Not retro as and of itself, yet, but the application of imagination will make it a worthwhile car.
any car + imagination = good

90% of them out there are fit for bean cans. They rot like a sunday market gold watch and the engines really are terrible. However every now and again I see one I like - usually a bog standard Rosso Red XR2i or a dark metallic blue RS1800. The RS Turbo doesn't do it for me for some reason, think it's the three-spokes and green trim. As daily transport they're fine, brilliant even given you can pick up a runner with fairly good bodywork for less than a train ticket costs these days. I'd also love to be proven wrong with a really 'different' one - not sure how Euro-style would look, perhaps it could hit some switches? Rat look is starting to be overdone but the green flash could be your savious. Of course if you're going to do a few novel bodywork tricks then it doesn't matter what's under the bonnet I think I've been poisoned by seeing thousands with lexus lights, rotten fuel fillers, tappet death rattle and shoddily rattlecanned XR bumpers

Well i've been away for most of the day and just got back to the pc to see about my thread,First off i'm happy at some of the responces on here and the others Hmm well what can i say i expected better,I was'nt sure how people would react to such a car,as i can agree that most "festers" are driven by dole monkies. But i saw that as a challenge at first, that was until i read the link to poor old "fiestasi" unfortinately i cannot view the pics of said car for some reason so can't comment on his motor but was very shocked at the reception he got.It would seem from peoples description that it had been modified with halfrauds gift vouchers, which again i agree thats not the way to go.The reason i came up with the colour of matt black was because i saw a T shirt that was washed out and had a lime green stripe to it and i thought it would look cool on my fester. To conclude i would like to have conviced some of the hardened "Retro Riders out there that i could make this car cool but it seems that because its not a modern VW that can be accepted as being made to have retro Cues i'm on to a losing situation. And i'm sorry to have littered the forum with a car i wanted to break the mould with.

You seem to have got a pretty encouraging response overall, I wouldnt go thinking you`ve littered the board or anything, as for that Fiesta Si thread most of that negativity was twinspark`s work and he`s gone. For the record, the car in question was a bog standard Si and looked good, I`ve always had a lot of time for those. Think he might have been planning to fit some skirts. Seriously, read back over the thread, its mostly good. And have another look at my little gem, I can`t get over it:
