So only a small update...
I have been following some of that through Sparrow Automotives Facebook page. Really interested to see how the gearbox holds up against the new engine.

You can check out more on Immersion Eleven Racing facebook page. Indeed.. a potential of 40hp more and who knows how many lbft... time will tell... and a good thing I'll shortly have a complete spare setup.

Business is dead this end so its the perfect antidote for a boring Monday, thank you! Ha! That's about 60% of the projects as well... It's the massive bonus of working in the Offshore industry, I end up with my time off usually in month chunks so can get really stuck into something.

Why not turn it into a BMW Safari with an engine in the back? You have the skills and 4WD & 400bhp should make it a good hillclimber

I know you don't have much on at the moment but if possible can we have a few pictures of the offshore job as that looks interesting as well??!!

I know you don't have much on at the moment but if possible can we have a few pictures of the offshore job as that looks interesting as well??!! I have to be quite careful what I post as a lot of it is very sensitive both commercially and politically.. we had to pull up and leave a €17.2 billion project incomplete due to sanctions from Trump.. but sure... have a random selection of offshore pictures from the last couple of years.. To give a brief overview of what you could see around a hydrocarbons based subsea project.. The ROV World by Alex de Vries, on Flickr The bread and butter of my work is in subsea pipelay, this is a pipe layer churning pipe out of the factory and down the stinger into the sea. Here it is big enough pipe that it's provided in 12m sections and welded together onboard. Picture 2671 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr The getup on the back of this boat was previously on an older shop that laid most of the north sea fields back in the day, here we are working down in Africa, much much smaller pipe on this one. Picture 1955 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Here's a big flexi lay boat that I was on for fitting out a few years ago in Singapore, she was incomplete at the time but you get an idea with the wheel for stern lay. IMG_6822 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr This is a drill ship - Norways ship of the year 2010 - that hadn't had the tower finished so we were using her for other operations in Africa in the mean time.. Picture 1565 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Incidentally whilst we were there we had our own plane flying us around the place and landing on dirt/village strips, all a bit blood diamond. Picture 1716 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr This is a moored FPSO (floating production storage) in the south china sea somewhere... Hotter than the sun when you get closer to the flare boom. Picture 1179 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr I was flying around on this chopper out of Vietnam. Picture 1246 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr The sea is a surprisingly busy place.. here a drill rig off of Norway I think.. IMG_8199 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr This is the largest ship in the world, here she is in pipelay mode but she is designed with that twin hulled bow to drive up to an oil platform with a bow on either side, then lift the topside off in one go and take it back to land for disposal, much cheaper and quicker than breaking a platform up at sea piece by piece. A totally new concept.. IMG_7373 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr I got out to a support boat in that field using this chopper which curse word avgas out of itself and down my window the whole time we were flying... I felt safe. Don't google the safety record of this type before you fly in one.. pro tip. IMG_1580 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Much safer for aircraft type... but much more dangerous in situation, we could only be on land in day time as it was the most dangerous area of Mexico.. IMG_3350 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr IMG_2568 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Bye! IMG_2674 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Why is everyone on the bow?? IMG_2762 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Ohh... WHALESHARK! IMG_2771 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr You do get the good fortune to see a lot of amazing sea and bird life... here some rapey sea dogs/dolphins bow riding. IMG_3475 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr And equally so subsea. IMG_1990 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Would you like to see some more?

I've worked for Allseas but left just before Pioneering Spirit was finished. Been on lorelay, audacia and tog more as a IT guy. Brilliant work but it can be stressful at times. When servers break down millions a day are lost...

Would you like to see some more? Your joking right? That's just amazing, what fantastic experiences. Can't wait to see more. Thank you. Right on, okay... so... how do we see things subsea and actually do all the work? With one or more of these here ROV's being launched out of the side of the boat on its LARS (launch and recovery system)... IMG_4222 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr Here's a slightly smaller one going through the splash zone IMG_0589 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr One without its TMS (tether management system) ontop of it IMG_4637 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr And up close to that smaller one from earlier IMG_0586 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr You can see the manipulators and also a tooling skid on this which I seem to remember had a bladder in for operating some hydraulic tooling on a structure subsea. If we're not doing some sort of construction or subsea intervention then I also seem to have fallen into another small niche of trenching & ploughing of subsea telecoms cables and prelaid pipelines. This big girl we were ploughing off the back of during the oil price crash in 2016, it was on two high voltage DC cables running from the west coast of scotland down through the irish sea and into around liverpool. IMG_4254 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr This is the A frame for the sheave wheel for lifting the plough over the stern IMG_4270 by Alex de Vries, on Flickr And you can just make out the plough here. 2nd yes please!! what an amazing life but I guess it has its curse word times like all jobs? I can put up some more... I could spend a couple of nights at the pub telling stories of all the scrapes it's got me into in the last ten years. Woken up at gunpoint by Gadaffis naval officers, anti piracy measures in the south china sea, scurvy in the south china sea, getting kidnapped in west africa, marooned off of a north african island when the company went bankrupt...
