The time has come to sell my 1974 MK3 Ford Cortina. I’ve owned this car since February 2012 and only used it in dry weather to visit car shows and occasionally to commute to work. Due to its low mileage and condition it’s a real timewarp car which gets lots of complements wherever it goes.
The Cortina was registered on 1st April 1974 and is an L décor model with a 1.6 litre pinto engine. It has front disc brakes and a black vinyl interior.
The car is completely original and not modified in any way. It has only covered just over 35400 miles from new and this is verified by the large amount of paperwork with the car. Paperwork wise, this includes MOT documents back to the early 1980’s, original owners manuals and various invoices.
The car itself is in good condition. Due to the mileage it drives very well with no strange noises or issues. The engine pulls very well and does not smoke. I also replaced the cambelt in August so should give many more trouble free miles.
Bodywork wise the Cortina is in good condition, it has been dry stored all its life. There are a few small rust patches, some on the drives side wings and behind the rear wheel arches.
The car is structurally sound, but please note, it has had replacement sills in the past and also 2 small arches to the rear wheel arches (these aren’t noticeable and also structurally sound). The floor plans, chassis rails, inner wings and boot floor are all in excellent condition.
The paintwork on the car is in good condition (bar the rust patches listed above), with a wash it comes up really well and looks like a car 20 years younger. There are a couple of stone chips on the bonnet and a dent which should push out.
The chrome work on the bumpers and door handles is in good condition, they come up really well with a polish. The bumpers are also straight with no dents or bends.
The interior of the car is in very good condition. It is all black (bar the headlining) and is a nice contrast to the white exterior.
The car comes with a full set of original keys, it even has the very rare original Ford key with plastic embossed fob (as shown in the pictures). All locks work as they should apart from the drivers door lock which will lock but not unlock from the key. I think a minor adjustment to the lock barrel will sort this as it will lock on the key.
The seats are black vinyl without any rips and due to the low mileage they are also still firm and supportive. The door cards are also black vinyl, again with no rips and no speaker holes either. The door furniture is chrome and black. The window winders work as they should as do the door pulls.
The dash is complete and original with no aftermarket holes or switches and everything works as it should.. It also benefits from having the original radio blanking plate fitted too. Unfortuantely, the steering wheel does show signs of sun damage and there are a couple of cracks on the dash top due to sunlight but these don’t really detract from the overall excellent condition of the interior.
It runs 13 inch steel wheels with good condition chrome hubcaps. The tyres were brand new at the last MOT.
The car is a 1974 model and thanks to recent changes in government regulations it has been classified as a historic vehicle and has tax exemption status (if you don’t know, this means a years tax costs the pricely sum of £0.00!)
It has a full UK MOT until December 4th 2015.
I’m only selling this due to loss of storage
To sumerise, this is a good usable classic in good condition. With a few very minor touch ups this could be an exceptional example of a MK3

PRICE IS NEGOTIABLE AROUND £3500.00
