I realise this will probably incur a penance of its own by not being in the You Tube thread... sorry. A couple of badly compressed clips of the good things that happened at Grid! I've never wanted a Skyline until I saw the 2 door in this video, and that Volvo!

What's the difference between Gymkhana and autotesting? Is it the same thing just under a different name?
Great car control!

From what I can gather, yes! Apparently the Gymkhana Grid thingy is Block's own set up. His sport sort of thing.
It was all vynal wrapped drift cars rather than daily driven mx5's and chevette's lol.

It's pretty much an auto test event, just without the reverse in to a box, do a j-turn around a cone sort of manoeuvre. It was brilliant to watch. We left before the finals bit I'lldefinitely be watching it tomorrow night.

Do auto tests also run in a head to head format?

Do auto tests also run in a head to head format? Not that I've ever seen. The Gymkhana was run like a rally special stage, each car in the pair would do both sides of the track and their two times would be added together for an overall time. So it wasnt a knockout vs the car you were paired up with. Top 4 awd and top 4 rwd cars from the qualifying went through to the final today.

I wondered what the difference was as well. It just looks like a slow autotest. I notice there were RWD and AWD classes but no FWD. Is that because an autotest Mini or Nova might trounce all those big, high power cars??

Haha I'm not sure. Watching the course I did feel as though I could drive it in my mini in the same time it took others to slide round.
The power was irrelevant as well, Block's 800hp Mustang was beaten in the final by an Impreza.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymkhana_(motorsport) which apparently is a modified version of en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autocross ... I like the whole head to head idea, would be good if it was pure timed head to head.
