For sale is my 1983 MK1 golf GL cabriolet.
It has MOT until June 2016 and due to new tax laws will be sold SORN (currently taxed).
As you can see from the pictures the car is in great condition considering it is 32 years old. There are some blemishes and age related marks but overall the body work is good and most importantly solid. I have recently machine polished and detailed the whole car to remove any imperfections in the paint. I have always kept the car garaged and if I can help it do not take it out in the rain.
The engine is a 1.5 with a Pierburg auto choke carburettor. It runs well, currently has 135k miles on the clock and has recently been serviced (less than 200 miles ago).
The GL model was considered the ‘highest spec’ golf at the time and came with double chrome bumpers and over-riders/headlight washers. The car benefits from having the bronze on brown colour scheme (full brown dash and steering wheel) which is considered desirable.
I have recently fitted numerous new and replacement parts:
• New front arms fitted with polybushes
• New ball joints
• New driver’s side tie rod and track rod end
• All new exhaust rubbers
• Recent new alternator
• Recent copper fuel and brake lines
• Carburettor cleaned and setup correctly on gas analyser
• New rear wheel bearings
• New heater switch
• Passenger seat belt buckle replaced
• Engine oil and filter change
• Air filter changed
• New Bosch spark plugs
• New fully adjustable coilovers
• New 15x7 ET30 BBS replica wheels with genuine BBS centres
• 4 New Nankang 185/45/15 NS2 sport tyres
• New battery
• New alternator
You will see the car is reasonably low and could be considered a ‘bumpy’ ride but the suspension is fully adjustable, it could be raised if required. Considering what I have done to the steering and suspension side of things there should be no work required on the chassis for a while.
The car is a perfectly useable classic and a good example of a MK1 golf cabriolet. These cars are only increasing in value and finding a good one is becoming harder all the time.
It does have some minor bad points although these do not have an effect on the usability or overall appearance of the car. I have been seriously stringent, listing every small fault and it probably sounds worse than it is but I don’t want anyone to arrive for a viewing without being well aware of any faults:
• L/H rear arch spat missing
• Scratch on passenger rear glass and drivers side glass
• Minor dent in drivers front wing
• Burn to passenger head rest
• Small hole in hood
• Rust bubble at the lower of drivers front wing
• Imperfections/rust in rear arches
• Slight lacquer peel on bonnet
• Some bubbling around wiper/scuttle area
• Interior window winders could be replaced to make perfect
The car again is in excellent condition, drives well and is a superb classic. It will be missed but needs must, I'm buying a bigger house so need to sell my ‘toys’. Please see my lifted hilux surf for sale aswell.
Car is located in Heath Hayes, Cannock
Price: £2250 ovno
Please no silly offers or ‘what’s your best price’, you are wasting your time and my time. I will not reply. The best thing to do is come and view the vehicle. I do need to sell the car but I am not desperate.
