long story short i have bought a nissan pao that needs a bit of work bodywise that I'm in the process of doing, it also wont start without some happy spray, rather than faff with the carb to get a 1.0 auto running i bought a k10 micra with a 1.2 and 5 speed manual, which i am going to swap in. Problem is that it is horrendously slow for me, so want a bit of pep, i will fashion up a decent exhaust manifold but on the breathing side of things which I'm aware on these MA engines are bad i was thinking of putting a weber on ? But no idea how to work out which weber is best for me ? The garage speedwell Pao in japan runs two 40 DCOE's, but i think he is running quite serious tuning in his MA11.
Or am i best to look at an SU carb ? I'm not particularly bothered either way but I know something needs to be done as the slowness will kill me.

If you haven't driven it yet with the 1.2 litre manual, I would swap that in first and get it working. Putting any kind of multi-choke carburettor on there will probably be tricky to get set up.
I'm no expert on carburettors, when I tried to put Weber carbs on my Beetle it just made life extremely painful. Basically, to cut a long story short I put twin 36mm IDFs on a stock 1600cc engine, and gave it to a workshop. They told me my carbs needed rebuilding, had it for over two weeks and couldn't get it running. Then they wanted to charge me a small fortune for the labour time! After that I swapped to a single 44mm IDF, which I knew was too big and needed smaller venturis in it. I couldn't tune it myself because I would've had to buy several hundred dollars worth of jets and venturis just for trial and error. Then I couldn't find any decent workshops who could actually set Webers up properly except for possibly one famous place who would have charged me $800 to tune the thing, or more if the carb needed rebuilding. I ended up selling the whole car and buying an EFI turbo car as it was the easiest and cheapest option!
What's the moral of my story? If you don't know what you're doing with carburettors, don't mess about with non-standard swaps. I never had any trouble keeping things running well on the stock carbs, but as soon as I went to Webers it all got far too hard and expensive! You really need a friend who knows their stuff to help you.
