Hi folks, quick question please!
As mentioned in a previous thread my Peugeot J7 has has a few running issues, mainly losing power when warmed up. I noticed today that the oil breather pipe between the catch tank (when the oil vapour collects and goes back into the case/manifold) and the case is cracked and slightly weeping oil. Obviously I need to replace it, but could this be causing poor running if it is causing an air leak/sucking in excess air?
Your thoughts are appreciated, Cheers Ollie

While I'm here, would the oil level being above max on the dipstick cause problems too?

I wouldn't have asked if I knew the answer! Thanks for the reply, I'll get on it. But, what problems does excess oil cause? (Serious question)

Perhaps one of the real questions here is why the oil level is above max. It hasn't got a blown head gasket has it? Evidence may include water in the oil making it look grey and milky, and oily looking water in the radiator.

Fingers crossed its ok as it looks ok on the dipstick, but at least I might get to the bottom of why its losing power. Thanks for your reply.

Well I changed the oil, it took 2 litres to get the level into normal on the dipstick. Shame I drained 4.5 litres out! What damage might this have done to the engine? It now sounds mildly tappety but the oil was not grey or milky so I'm hoping the head gasket is ok.

(assuming you have an engine mounted fuel pump) check the oil doesn't smell of fuel, some cars can leak fuel in to the engine if the pump if faulty.
