Hi all this ad is for my 1991 Mazda MX5.
The car is a completely original, early UK spec Mariner Blue 1.6 model. Unfortunately around March this year the engine failed, and I have spent the last several months replacing the engine in the vehicle, only to find the engine I have put in is making a buzzing/tapping noise. The noise is not a crank knock however and may be an easy fix.
Before fitting the engine I fitted a brand new cambelt, water pump, manifold gaskets, oil + filter, rocker cover + CAS seals + alternator and power steering belts, overall there is around £150 of new parts on the replacement engine. I also replaced the gear oil at the time.
The bodywork is in nice original condition, and I have included several photos taken days before the car was taken off the road 8 months ago. There is a small area needing attention in the passenger side rear wheel arch which I have pictures. The sills however are solid and do not need any attention. The pop up lights work fine and the car is fitted with an aftermarket immobilizer which also works as it should.
The roof requires a good clean from where the car has been sitting, but it is very good condition with no damage and no splits/deterioration to the rear plastic window. This was a new roof fitted in 2012 with reciepts to prove.
The car runs and drives fine apart from the engine noise and can be heard running, and will easily be driven onto a recovery truck upon collection. It has almost new Yokohama and Kuhmo tyres on the original daisy wheels, and the interior is in good condition with the original momo steering wheel with the plastic factory blank. It will require a good clean and a gear selector boot but otherwise is fine.
I have got quite an extensive history file with the car as pictured, and will make a great winter project for someone. Clean original early MX5's in this overall condition are getting rare now!
The car is available for viewing in Maidstone, Kent. Phone Scott on 07960210538
