For sale because I'm fed up of it. Yes I've just fixed it (read on for more details) but I'm a Citroen man. This was a brief foray into Peugeot land but it's not for me.
So here are the details: in true RR "not getting the best value from the sale" here's the bad stuff first.
* Every body panel has some sort ofpatina character dent on it.
* Rust under rear seat (not mentioned on MOT fail sheet though)
* Rusty jacking point/sill (but again, not mentioned on MOT fail sheet)
* Radiator has a small leak - new rad supplied for the asking price.
* No stereo.
* Handbrake doesn't work (cable snapped).
* Has a week's MOT.
And the good stuff:
* Has a week's MOT.
* Very strong engine and box, goes like greased weasel sh1t. 110bhp I tell you!
* Genuine Peugeot towbar with twin electrics.
* Good spare tyre and complete with jack and wheelbrace.
* Almost all the electrics work, which is unheard of on old French cars. The only exception is the temperature sensor which seems convinced it's somewhere between 50 and 64 degrees outside.
* 406 coupe alloys which look cool.
* 406 leather steering wheel and gear knob which feel nice.
* Remote central locking with TWO WORKING KEYS OMG.
* Cavernous boot with genuine rear load cover (like hen's teeth)
* Interior is nice and clean and doesn't smell (well, it smells like a 90s PSA group car, which I like)
* Starts first time every time.
* Recent new alternator.
* Comfy, cruises well, handles surprisingly well, economical, masses of space.
I bought it to get me out of a bit of a hole, I had a job to do in Colchester and my C5 wasn't big enough for the equipment. Bought this without seeing it. Went to get it on train/bike, took a crazy route on my bike, ended up soaked and covered in mud. Bought 406 and drove it home, snapping the handbrake cable en route. Filled it up with diesel and drove to Colchester and back in it in a day, it didn't miss a beat and only used half a tank of diesel (but did use a bit of water, which is how I found out about the radiator). I booked it in for an MOT, got it done, basically it just needs a handbrake cable and two front tyres to pass (other items were number plate light which I've bought but not fitted, NS headlamp aim too low which I've fixed). Bought a radiator for it, and also an oil filter which you can have with it.
The morning after the MOT the starter motor started playing up. I spent two weeks tracing the problem (had to take the wiring loom apart) - stripped insulation on the solenoid wire and glow plug supply meant the starter was running whenever the plugs should have been on... extremely confusing. Now fixed and reassembled, but it took me so long to find the problem that I'll now have to pay for a full new MOT rather than a retest...
Call me irrational but I just don't seem to get on with Pugs. This one has a lot going for it but I'm not sure it's for me. It owes me more than the asking price even in the short time I've had it but I don't have the appetite to put the money in to get it MOTd any more (I imagine it would be about £50 for the MOT, £80 for two tyres, £50 for the handbrake cable). However, I imagine if you want to get more than a year out if it, it will need welding soon.
Get yourself dayinsured and drive away from Bristol for £300, but the MOT runs out on the 14th so be quick. I would honestly have no worries about driving to anywhere else in the UK in it, as evidenced by my blast to Colchester in it.
Oh yeah pictures and that. Haven't even cleaned it...
