Plans changed yet again so now I need it done! Made progress here and there, the fan not working is because the motors dead. So going to buy a new one and make it fit in the original bracket. It has a battery now too so it starts on the key which is good, I also cut down the new springs and put those in. I'm hoping it will be done soon with a bit of luck Bonus points for quirky special dashboard

Good news, we have an MOT pass! Advisories are tires and rust which was expected. It's MOT expired in Oct' 2012 so it's good to have another retro back on the road. Since the last update I did tidbits like the fan and stuff. Now it's passed I'll treat it to some wheels and tires and crack on with rust. And some other general bits, need to make it feel more like one of my cars.

Finally got some motivation to carry on with this, the starter died and i couldn't be bothered with it so I've been using the Escort as my daily again. New starter arrived today and I've been doing some other bits: Hopefully get it on this weekend, its from a GTT but fingers crossed it's similar enough/the same.

After sorting a few misc issues and making some improvements/fixes, it's all together and back on the road. Got some good things planned for it too..

Loving the use of the Astra Mk2 trimZ. They're my favourites! Any Escort updates?

Cheeeers, I feel like they suit the quirkyness of the 5. No Escort updates yet apart from scoring my holy grail part, a pair of 4-door opening front 1/4 windows That and I need to cart my crane down from up north so I can finally get that 1600 in!

Loving the 5 , but boy , i'm jealous of the williams... my childhood dreamcar. Never ever had one and now there all rotten and broken for spares. You have a thread for the williams? Are they really that hard to live with? And do they brake down all the time? Sorry to hyjaxk the thread of your 5 but i really like to know. thanks in advance

Time for an update. I still have this and it's still my daily driver. Engine is out of the Escort thanks to using pOG's crane too Anyway the 5, I cleaned the side trims up and they're in the shed awaiting some paint, I need to do the boot trim and rear light trims too. It desperately needed new wheels and tires, they were so dented and the tires were cracked all over so I threw some 165/55's on a new set of Wellers and now it's got a new look I don't really have anything else planned apart from lowering it more (the gap in the front compared to the tuck in the back irks me and it needs a little rake) and tidying it up, maybe some different seats as I loathe the originals - but overall its been great fun.

I would love a 5. My sister had a clio of similar vintage and I loved that too. Just wish they were safer in a bump. Heard some horror stories about these but I suspect due to frivolish driving.

I think I need a 5 in my life to go along side my Clio, suddenly developed a taste for French cars with all their quirky bits. Did you have an electrical issues? I found with my Clio a few things didn't want to work, pass window wouldn't go down elec mirrors didn't work. It all turned out that all I needed to do was clean all the connections on the switches and all was fine again. Do you know if the clock in the 5 is the same as in a mk1 Clio, as mine has stopped working, definitely the clock, had it out and stripped it but no joy.

No updates really, I did an lower though. Need to adjust the camber but I'm pretty happy with it, rides so much better now it's on shorter golf coilovers instead of the standard R5 struts

I still have this, it was supposed to be a stop gap daily driver while doing Escort stuff but that took way longer than expected with a lot of stupid delays which are kinda still happening. Anyway I'm really fond of the pre-facelift 2nd gen 5's but can't find one at the right time (when I have money/space/can justify another car) so I found the bits to do it this one. Okay it'll never look 'right' as the pre-facelift ones never came in the Campus' blue, but oh well. Debating which colour to do it, I've done the bumper in an OEM-style grey and the rest (grille rear bumper rear light trims boot trim side panels mirrors etc) will either follow suit or all go black like it was. I'm leaning towards grey and putting the old nova trims back on. Tbh I'd love to have a go with Montana and do the whole car as the paint is terrible and I've always wanted to try it but I'd feel bad as the blue is kind of nice It may be out of action for a while though as the Escort passed MOT thursday, so I did the obvious thing and drove 250+ miles to Player's Classic at Goodwood with the completely untested engine and having not prepared at all. I made it there and back and have a lot to do still but there's some cool photos of it floating about

Finished up the pre-facelift swap. Finally got to experiment with some MTN94 after seeing so much about it on RR, I love it - I'm tempted to do the whole car with it since the paint is terrible all over and I can sort all the bodywork out. The first order was a little too like primer, so I bought some a couple of shades darker which came out exactly how I wanted; lighter than the black I had painted the old bumpers but darker than OEM grey. Still need to decide which headlights to use, do the front bumper mounts, and sort my other seats out for it

New wheels, managed to grab some Slotmags identical to the set on my Escort except in 4x100. Fairly tempted to paint the centers a different colour or paint the whole wheel in a similar shade to the ones on the Williams.
I used the tyres from the Wellers it had on, the Slotmags are a fair bit lower re: offset but just about fit. I still need to investigate front camber options too, nothing crazy it just needs correcting to what it should be if not a tad less.
