I went to the Castle Combe Autumn Classic yesterday, I was and still might do a full luckyseven style write up with images but don't have time at the moment. In the meantime I thought I'd share these images;
One of my all time favourite cars is the Aston Martin DBR1/300, influenced by the fact that it won Le Mans in the year of my birth, it's also outstandingly beautiful. Although these days it seems to get more attention because Stirling Moss' used to race them, Carol Shelby and Roy Salvadori don't seem to get much of a mention. I was very pleased to see a one entered for a couple of the races yesterday. Doing some research the owner/driver is Adrian Beecroft a former venture capitalist and an angel investor and contributed £500K to the conservative party (thanks Wikipedia). His car is chassis DBR1/4, which was a conversion from a DBR3 and didn't actually race. Reputedly worth about £4M, the actual Le Mans race winner was for sale at £20M in 2012 don't know if it sold though.
Anyway some photos;

An Austin Healey had spun a couple of laps earlier and was nose first into the barriers on the outside (right) of the corner, instead of a red flag they continued under a waved yellow. The Jaguar driver (68) spun first the Aston spun trying to avoid and collected the Healey and the Jag hit him as well, and another following Jag hit the Healey. To add injury to insult the Jag (#68) was undamaged and the Healey that had initially spun off reversed away from the barrier with no damage.

That'll take a bit more than a polish to put back! I hate to think what the repair bill will be. The Healey was pretty comprehensively bashed up the back as well. All in all a very expensive coming together. What was worst was that the Aston driver had been obviously keeping out of trouble for most of the race.
More pictures later, a wheel lifting Imp, fire breathing Mustang, Formula 3 500s, pre '66 Jag's and Austin Healey's undamaged and sideways. A great day out out it in the calendar for next year.
