Looking to buy one for Mrs Daveyboy20's new daily.
I had an e30 320i and it was fun but thirsty, she would be happy with a 1.8 manual 4 cylinder, so I'm hoping that it'd be a bit better...
But generally speaking, what are they like?

The smaller engined cars are not much better on fuel TBH! The old single cam engines were also very thirsty for whay they were!
My E36 323i did around 30-33MPG, and around town it didn't really drop below 28MPG. On the motorway some have approached 40MPG but I enjoyed my high speed runs!

Thanks mate - useful as we're looking at a 2.3 at the minute. Did you find it a good daily?

Thanks mate - useful as we're looking at a 2.3 at the minute. Did you find it a good daily? The 323i is actually a 2.5 albeit detuned, which the M52s are TBH in comparison to the M50s. However, all it takes to upgrade them is an inlet manifold from an M50 and a remap to reap the full rewards. As a daily I quite enjoyed mine. I sometimes wonder if I should ahve kept it. They are IMO better built than the E46 and in one way come with more kit (dual zone climate control being an example). Here is the thread to how I faired with my E36. I shall say a few things however. 1) As stock they will bottom out on some speed bumps. Lowering them even 40mmm does make them do this more 2) They love to snap the rear springs, at the pigtail ends. However they are a very quick and easy job to do. 3) They are a geared a little on the tall side. Great for being a motorway cruiser, mayne not so great for enjoying the car as much ;a 6 speed 'box would have been a great solution. In town they can seem to bog down but I seemed to solve this. 4) For some reason my car ran nicer on V-Power. Without it there was a bogging down feel present went at low RPM (say leaving junction or a set of lights. This vanished with V-Power. I don't know why it did but it was smoother and made town driving that bit nicer. TBH I am beginning to look at an E36 M3...
