Hello chaps. .
I want to buy another double cab truck. There are a few out there but they don't have an MOT which would be ideal for a weekend project but I'm having a few problems.
My usual guy is unable to bring it over for me on his flat bed due to it putting him over his weight limit.
What are my other options if any? Is it just a case of phoning around for a competitive rate with a guy who has a larger truck or suitably rated trailer?
Any suggestions would be excellent.

What're the odds of getting caught if you just drive it home? Obviously depends where it is and where it needs to go but is it worth considering or completely out of the question?

If they look legal I would be booking it in for an MOT and driving it, make sure you have recovery though just in case.

Potential vehicle is in Portsmouth, I'm in Kent.
Problem is o have to deal with the M25 and M20, both of which are riddled with cameras and VOSA who like to hide under the bridge pillars.
The one I am looking at supposedly needs a fog light bulb and a set of front pads. I have left a message asking if this is a guess or an actual fail result. Suppose there is always the option of doing the work, submitting it for an MOT and driving it home.

I struggled to find somebody who would even move a Range Rover due to weight but in the end posted a message on Shipley and got it done for cheaper than hiring a trailer and a mate towing with his Pathfinder. I assume you will need something like a 7.5 ton recovery truck rather than a LWB transit beavertail. What about asking the local LCV specialist if they know of somebody who is making regular runs to Portsmouth area and want a "return load".
Earlier this year I moved my Disco 70 miles without MOT and mainly went on motorway. Pre booked a MOT, insured and drove it back without any problems. Obviously it failed MOT as expected but at least I was legal for the collection journey.

I did Gatwick to Sheffield M25 - M1 for a pre booked MOT no problems I drove past a VOSA camera car at the side of the M8 (well, the bit where it drops back to being the A8) taking a car to a pre-booked MOT a couple of months ago and haven't heard a peep. It hasn't had an MOT for a couple of years and was on SORN but was on MID and was being submitted for test with the expectation of a pass so had new tyres and all that. I expected some thing in the post from them or a visit from Plod whereupon I would show them the MOT issued an hour after I passed the camera car and say "In your face!". No. I wouldn't have said that.

At the moment Vosa camera vans are for hgv's, they get the number plate, and brings up on the Vosa system the haulier details, the star rating of that company,( currently my employer is rated A star plus, this is based on how many Mot fails it has,how many of our trucks are pulled etc etc) of course this is subject to being changed .....

Every day's a school day when you're on RR. Thanks man, I had no idea that was what they did.
