Hi Guys
As it says in the title I`ve never seen a nicely modified Mazda Bongo, They are all 2-tone with tiny wheels and covered in original camper graphics,
Surely this must be the camper that has been missed by the surf bus crew?
Why are they only owned by middle class mums doing the school run?
I know the rear arches rust and the head gaskets cause problems but what else is wrong with them?
£3000 for a pop top Bongo but £12,000 for a pop top T4?
Cheers Adrian

This thread needs more pics. Cant find many though Hi EmDee That's the only one I can find that's modified but I think that's pretty horrible with the mahoosive J spec bumpers and stuff, Also the tyres look a bit small leaving loads of (front to back) arch space I do like the fact its not 2-tone though, Where I live in Cornwall we are loaded with T4`s running Audi rims/lowered and colour coded etc Surely the same treatment would work on a Bongo? Cheers Adrian Cheers Adrian

Cheers Adrian Hi Adrian, I guess it comes down to personal taste. I LOVE the bumpers and spoilers. As for the arch gap, well it's on air so you can give or take a few inches either way. The tyres are low profile so they can sit all the way in the arches. Look forward to seeing your take on one. Don't forget to post pics on here

Hi
Yes it`s the same as the Ford Freda or whatever it is,
The Fords are rarer and seem to fetch more money
Cheers Adrian

I had a Mazda Bongo Frendee Freetop 2, (to give it it's Sunday name). It came to GB with no rust and was then drenched in Waxoyl. not a speck of rust 3yrs later and I still miss it. It was 2wd with an lsd, which I preferred over a 4wd one. Most are auto boxes with diesels, but some are 2litre petrol. Most excellent bits of kit, just look after the cooling system. Vary specs and some are basic, some are loaded with kit. There is a good club in Bongofury www.bongofury.co.uk/

I know what you mean - get them stickers off and some decent paint! As a former T25 owner I've heard a lot but they look tall or maybe narrow? Definitely got potential as seen above but I prefer the older cabover J vans like the Hiace and earlier Bongos.

Tricky one that, they're not an easy shape to work with and not many people do anything with them. I'm also not entirely sure the two I've picked above are even Bongos.

The top one is a Toyota hiace vulgalour - there are some seriously nice ones around aij29 see my Nissan Elgrand build thread, it's a bit less boxy but it's similar car to a bongo. Oh but I'm putting silly graphics over the nice paintwork.
