So here we go then, I have toyed with the idea of parting with this but with the impending loss of storage with my Allegro coming home I have decided to sell my 1600cc '65 Mk3 Hillman Super Minx.
I have owned the car for over 18 months and in that time it has had a fair bit of work done to it and I have had tons of fun with it.
The car is a genuine 14 owner car and sports it's original engine (83 thou) and 50 year old paint!
Both rear wheels bearings have been replaced, the diff has been stripped and rebuilt, front ball joint has been replaced and a new distributor has been fitted as the existing one had a bent shaft. Also had a new coil fitted and battery. Both sides of the front floor have been welded as have the inner sills although there is a small hole in the drivers side but it's not in the prescribed area, the front of the sills at the bottom of the wings also require work. ( this was next on the list ). The door bottoms are also going to require attention soon.
The Minx has been lowered by 1 1/2 inches all around with Ford Escort lowering blocks on the back and cut springs on the front ( not to everyone's taste I know but professionally done ), it does make it handle a little less like a canal barge too.
The trim rings are plastic so it's one part of this Coventry Cruiser that will never rust, I do have the original trims though.
The worst bits are really the door bottoms and the lower front wings (see above) but the car s 50 years old and has never been restored so rust is to be expected and I have soaked the underside in oil along with extensively Jaffa waxing the top half to preserve the patina. The drivers side seat has a split on the top of the bolster but I do have a spare set of seats although they are light blue. The front carpet was thrown away as it was totally rotten thanks to the previous owner trying to dry the car out with newspaper underneath it ( yes really!! ), hence the welding that's been needed.
The Hillman drives very nicely and will sit comfortably at 60 although I wouldn't want to push it much harder as bits may start falling off! Seriously these are very comfortable cruisers to drive and don't need to be driven hard.
The sign writing on the boot was done by Jon Leeson of LetterKnight Earl Shilton and is a reference to Rippon Brothers Rootes Dealers where I believe the car was originally sold.
I have a spare complete 1600cc engine and box along with a load of other spares.
So there you have it, I'm sure there's bits I've forgotten so I'll add them as and when I remember
My mobile number is 07500 664345 or PM me if interested.
Sensible offers considered but please don't insult me and potential Mike Brewers need not apply.
Thanks for reading and here's some pics.
Thanks for looking.
