Up for sale is my Eunos Roadster. Ive got plenty to write about and a fair few photos so please bare with me. I've had this car since Feb 2014. As I drove it home from purchasing it, feeling all gooey and such JDM.. the engine went kaput. So i had a replacement engine fitted and I've been tinkering with it ever since. I've really enjoyed owning it and I'm not sure if I want to part with it. Maybe you want an MX5? have a read see what you think.
Boring stuff. I've got lots of old MOTs and receipts totaling around a grand. The lad who i bought this car from stripped it down to a bare shell in 2013, undersealed, sand blasted and powder coated all subframes ETC. Then replaced and renewed all servicable parts. I've got lots of photos of the rebuild if you want a gander. Since i've owned it i've more or less just enjoyed it, done a few bits to make it drive better and messed up the passenger wing, well some guy reveresed into it and I like spending money on shiny bits rather than paint.
This car for me has always just been about the way it drives, so anything I've done has been to make it drive how I feel it should, For example. I decided to run 13s. 15s look way better but anyone who has driven and mx5 on 13s will probably agree they are far more lively on smaller wheels. Because of all the bushes and all parts having covered around 10k miles since its been rebuilt, it really is a rewarding little car to drive. No knocks or bangs. I've never felt steering so direct. I've got a standard 1.8 mx5 as well with 80k miles and its like having two different cars. this one drives so much nicer. Its not harsh or crashy either. I'm not particularly bothered about the scratches and scuffs it has because its a car that has been used. The main thing for me is that its solid and gets through an MOT every year, which it is, and it does, which is nice. Think I'll stop waffling and break it down into a little over view.
Interior.
Standard eunos momo steering wheel
Electric windows drivers side is very quick, must have a new motor. Passenger side, not so quick lol.
Uprated door and headrest speakers
Kenwood head unit with aux input
Suede gear gator
upper and lower shift boots replaced along with new turret oil (nice snicky gear change)
MX5 parts U shape Style Bar (£182 new)
The dash and door cards are covered with a grey suede material, It hasn't been done particularly well but it looks good.
import folding visors
Jdm Flare yo^
A/C delete (second rad fan works on the switch)
Chassis
It handle r8 gud M9 what
It does a skid if you're so inclined
13x7 Et-7 Alleycat specials with Advan A539 185/60/r13 on the front and Nankang AS2 rears. I run 26psi as it drives and rides quite harsh with higher tyre pressures
Fully polybushed including steering rack and Diff voids
Vmaxx Coilovers (£324 New)
Power steering Still connected (Fluid replaced)
Discs and pads all good
New wheel bearings
New ball joints
new track rod ends
CV joints rebuilt and powder coated with new boots
Braided hoses all round fluid changed
Handbrake is the best on any car I've owned
Viscous LSD
Recent 4 wheel alignment with printout. very defined turn in response and progressive handling. It only tends to oversteer but There's so much feed back when the back end starts to slide. This is only due to the mismatched tyre choice makeing it very lively indeed. Wet weather can be a bit daunting but it lets you know in good time what it wants to do.
Engine.
This engine was taken from a 1993 import eunos with around 100k miles. Its very strong, pulls as hard as the 1.8 mx5 i've got and uses very little oil which I have changed every 3000 miles with 10/40 semi Triple R carlube oil.
New HT leads
new standard air filter
Standard timing (power band is 4000-7000rpm) Advanced timing works well on these engines to liven the bottom end but i've not altered this one
All belts and water pump done
New rad
Coolant flushed 5 times through and replaced with Ethylene glycol based coolant.
4-2-1 stainless exhaust manifold with extended lambda wiring
Stainless silenced decat pipe
Big ass Powerflow stainless backbox with a pea shooter upswept tip (not loud at all)
Exterior.
The paint polishes up well and looks presentable but every panel has imperfections. Bumpers have masking marks where the mudflaps were etc. The bodywork is very solid, never welded sills are immaculate. There is a small blister on the rear wheel arch. its far better underneath that it is on top. but as i said this has never really bothered me. The worst of it is the passenger wing which i have been looking to replace for about a year but I've not seen a silver one come up. As you can see from the photos ever panel has been removed and thoroughly rust proofed inside and out, which is what drew me to this car, knowing it should last a fair few years. I've kept the drainage holes unblocked and checked regularly. I've stretched out the sill drains as well to make sure nothing gets trapped. If it rains you're greated by puddles under the sill where it has drained out which is always reassuring.
Roof is a newish vinyl one with a plastic window. it's fully water tight but has cracks around the doors.
that's it really I like to keep it simple styling wise for that 90's japanese drift tengoku styling (Small wheels, Big tyres, functional stance)
Bad Points.
All cars have them. The P/S auxiliary belt is a bit squeaky on startup, I'll have a look at tightening it. There is noticeable transmission noise on the over-run, it's been like this since I bought it. I've had 3 mx5s and they've all done it. The stereo is wired to the sidelights, I actually think its better because it acts as a buzzer if you like when you leave the sidelights on. There is no boot popper inside the centre console. the fuel filler release cable is kinked so you have to wiggle it to get the catch to close again. The exhaust doesn't sound or look particularly good. I preferred the standard one. the 365mm steering wheel is a bit too big. Obvious further mods would be bigger anti roll bars and some undercar chassis bracing. Looks like the rear box seal has started weeping when i was under it the other day.
I've definitely forgot everything i wanted to put so I'll add it in when i remember. It's difficult to price MX5s this one owes me far more than the asking price, but if its not worth it to you, make me an offer, i can only say no. Please come have a look for yourself and have a chat if you're interested. I can move on price, ive got the standard wheels with good tyres If you don't like the alley cats. but please come see me or give me a call if you're interested.
Wanna look at some pics? I like pics. let's look at some pics. (pics)
