Evening, I recently acquired a new shape Mini which needs a few bits doing. I'm needing to remove the driveshafts but one of the hub nuts looks like it's been cross threaded when it was put on and it won't come undone. I have tried absolutely everything to undo it but to no avail. I am currently using a (now blunt) chisel to slowly smash my way through the nut but does anyone have any other techniques or can suggest any tools I should try for a quicker and easier removal? Drill down the nut where the slot is to make splitting easier.

agreed, drill a hole or 2, and sharpen chisel on the grinder

Mini hub nuts have particularly high torque settings, so its probably just tight, I'd just get a bigger bar on it.

I've had an impact gun on it and when that wouldn't budge it I've been using a breaker bar with 4 foot of scaffold pole on the end and it still didn't budge an inch!

When the gun wouldn't undo it I checked the thread direction and can confirm its a standard thread. I can't get my hands on any longer pieces of bar (it was a struggle finding the 4ft piece).

Try jumping on the bar, or wedge the bar against the ground and try driving the car a few inches to see if that will shift it

Any of your mates got a nut splitter? Failing that just carry on with the cold chisel. It's rooted now anyway.

Nut splitter won't work as its in a recess. Best option is to drill it and split it with a chisel as suggested earlier.

Eat more pies before bouncing on the end of the scaffold pole! Seriously though have you got the pole slid towards the end of the breaker bar? Even a 5 ft bar gives a hell of a lot of leverage

I had a similar issue, I used a dremel and a few cutting discs. A die-grinder would also work.

I use a Clarke electric impact gun which I bought a couple of years ago from Machinemart. Many will laugh but It's a beast and there's literally nothing it hasn't mamaged to remove yet.....

I've tried using my unbelievably powerful Snap-On impact gun and it's done nothing. I'm stumped as to how this has been done up so tight!

I've jumped on the end of a 8ft scaff pole on a breaker bar to get hub nuts to budge before. They can be ridiculously tight.

Finally got this off earlier. I bought some nice sharp drill bits and it took me all of 10 mins to drill through it and chisel off what's left  |

I feel your pain.
I have a hub nut on an Astra I am putting an engine in. The previous owner of the strut couldn't get the hub nut off.
I broke three breaker bars (I kept getting returns from Halfords), and bent a Snap On one. An air ratchet wouldn't shift it, heat made no difference and an air chisel didn't even turn it. We tried everything. The car is sitting with half a driveshaft in it.
The best thing to do is drill a hole to relieve some stress on the nut, just to crack the thread.
