Hi,
I'm selling my '98 'S' 540 touring. I bought this from an old chap in Twickenham this April as a stop gap between selling my 335i touring and getting its replacement, but found myself hanging on to it. It's been a motorway car all its life, the previous owner only drove it from London to Ireland every fortnight. I believe there were only two owners before me. It's an unbelievably clean car, the only rust I have found is on the boot lid. Underweath is spotless as far as I can see (anyone is more than welcome to inspect).
The car has done 182k miles, and has a full years MOT. It has an bit of history here and there. The brakes look very recent, all tyres look recent and are good brands.
It's in Oxford green (part of the reason I bought it), auto and has an interesting spec.
Memory eletric comfort seats (billion way adjustment, electric headrests!)
Auto dim/dip power folding wing mirrors (rather rare)
Electric steering column adjust (position is saved with the memory seats)
Rear window blinds
Sunroof
Headlamp washers
Sliding centre arm rest
Locking boot floor
Three keys, including the Valet key!
Rear parking sensors
Cruise control
Climate control
Switchable auto with 'Sport' mode
Standard 540 On Board Computer
It's completely untouched from factory, which is quite rare these days. The only thing I have changed is the number plates, they were very tatty and old when I bought the car. New ones from Stratstone BMW have freshened it up a bit.
Every single thing works as it should. It's got a full tool kit, even has the BMW breakdown card under the boot carpet
It comes with three original keys, one which is the 'valet key' which apparently doesn't open the glovebox.
It has a bit of a water leak. I've had a BMW specialist quote me £30 plus the part to fit it, but I just haven't had time to sort this. I check it every time I drive it, and top it up every now and again. Also, the rear left goes down after a few days (I drive it very rarely). But as soon as you unlock the car or start it, it goes back up to the normal hieght immediately and stays there.
The rear bumper looks like the previous owner backed it into something (see pictures). The parking sensors work, but sometimes bleep for no reason when in reverse. But they still do their job. It's got the age-related car park dings here and there, too.
It's a brilliant car, will give you 30mpg on a run in complete silence. Selling because I barely have time to drive these days and I have another car. Bit pointless having it really.
I'd ideally like to keep it because I love the thing, it goes like the clappers and make a fantastic noise. If I were to keep it, I'd get the two little niggles sorted and would he confidant it would keep going for another 10 years.
Because of the niggles, looking for somewhere in the region of £****
The car is based in Sheffield.
Thanks,
Pete
