How to find out full vin number from car registration?
Would I have to go to the main dealers or use a car check site if so which check site gives the full vin number?
Reason I'm asking is an old boy asked who has a old Mercedes de with a private plate on it he wants the plate off the car(will get it motd So we can take the plate off). He has no logbook and the chassis number is missing.
I'm going to fill out a v62 for a logbook for him but can not fill out the chassis number section as don't have one.
How can we find out the chassis number?

What's happened to the number? Has the plate been removed or has the bit of body where it should be stamped been cut away? Might be worth double checking exactly where the VIN should be located?

The vin on the firewall stamped had been badly corroded it's starts I think it's a wd and that's it and on the door shuts there is no vin sticker and the plate on the engine bay does not have the vin but it fell off and the owner misplaced it

Any reason the owner doesn't just request a new V5 himself? How long has it been off the road?

old MOT tickets show the VIN number, PM the reg number I MAY be able to get the VIN.

I may be well out of date but when you used to do plate transfers in days gone the chassis or vin number was the main thing they checked when they examined the vehicle the plate was being transferred off...

Sorted went to Mercedes they gave me the vin number over the counter at Parts

Any reason the owner doesn't just request a new V5 himself? How long has it been off the road? You need to put the VIN on the form when you request a replacement V5 even if you're the registered keeper. I expect they'll send it back to you if you miss it out. |
