An incredible UK Fiat 500 750 Abarth Evocazione with full history from new
EQUIPMENT
Chrome bumpers with front and rear nudge bars, swivelling quarter lights, stainless steel brightwork and door furniture, side repeaters, Carello headlamps, Monza chrome door mirror, padded dashboard, ashtray, tilt access front seats, folding rear seat, rear seatbelts, fresh air heater and demister, heated rear window, windscreen washer. Brief Abarth Spec: External oil filter kit including improved flow casing, Abarth deep sump with wash baffles & oil temp sensor, Setrab 7 bar Hi-flow heat exchanger, electric fan, Abarth finned alloy rocker cover, Alquati twin pipe sports exhaust system, Abarth upgraded spring rear engine mount, Abarth fully independent front crossmember wishbone suspension kit.
EXTERIOR
Finished in the original striking colour of Positano Yellow (code 208) the paintwork boasts a wonderful bright polished finish. All quality chrome and brightwork trim has been renewed and remains in pristine order as do the Fiat Abarth 750 decals. The highest standards were also upheld with the renewal of the sunroof and all rubbers and catches. A fully detailed front luggage compartment houses the original jack and rubber holding strap. Regular rust proofing treatment from new has preserved this little Bambino beautifully and absolutely no welding has ever been required with only minor paintwork imperfections notable upon close inspection, specifically worthy of mention is a small hairline crack to the paintwork on the front offside arch. A true no expense spared homage to the legendary Carlo Abarth creation and a worthy wearer of the Scorpion shield!
INTERIOR
The interior styling of this classic Italian supermini is every inch a fashion icon and epitomises chic design. The Black vinyl seats with matching door cards and padded dash rail are in remarkable condition with no tears or damage. The only new addition being a fantastic Abarth alloy engraved scorpion gear knob and tacho. All original functions and controls operate perfectly and the floor mounted choke control and starter remain. The flat band style speedometer and warning lights function. This is a lovely understated interior which is period and not over accessorised. Very fitting.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
Having never been a standard car from new this example retains the classic look of the 500 engine with a 750cc conversion by renowned specialists. With a balanced crank, skimmed and gas flowed head with larger valves and hardened seats and twin Weber 40DCOE carbs, this car can keep up with modern traffic. A 4-speed all-synchromesh gearbox offers much improved usability.
WHEELS, TYRES, BRAKES & SUSPENSION
Four Abarth replica alloy wheels are in perfect condition and are shod in 145/70 R12 tyres with masses of tread remaining. The original spare is secured with the rubber holding strap and a wheel top cover is a great finishing touch. A total brake overhaul including, Ricambio drilled front disc brake conversion, new rear brake drums and shoes, new master cylinder and slave cylinder and a full set of copper brakelines ensures this car stops as well as it goes. Handling is taken care of by front and rear fully adjustable Coil-Over shocks, fully independent Abarth front crossmember wishbone suspension kit, alloy adjustable tie rod steering arms and all new bushes and mounts.
HISTORY FILE
Registered new on 7th November 1969 this example was supplied and originally owned by Haynes Continental Motors who were the Fiat Main Dealer in Oxford. Retained for use by Mr Haynes’ wife and affectionately named Little Gemma after her, the original green log book still remains in the history file and the small supplying dealer plaque is still fixed to the inner passenger door! Kept with the family until August 2012 when Stanton Haynes, the owners Son, sold the car with just 66,654 miles. A letter from him containing an in-depth written history of the vehicle with one or two sweet anecdotes thrown in is included. From new Mr Haynes fitted a Nardi engine conversion purchased from the Fiat Abarth importers, Radbourne Racing Ltd in Holland Park. As this 652cc tuning kit was fitted from new and installed through an official Fiat garage, the capacity is actually noted on the original logbook as 650cc and did not invalidate the warranty. Professionally maintained while under the Haynes family ownership the car was sold to a Fiat enthusiast who embarked on something special to continue the bloodline of the Radbourne/Nardi heritage and had new 750 upgrade mated to a fully synchronised gearbox to replace the crash gearbox. The total spend is catalogued at £14,000 with all invoices to substantiate and leaves absolutely no doubt to the quality of components used and care lavished on this unique example.
The colossal history is beautifully presented within three Abarth branded colour coded files, two of which reveal a full photographic account of the build from start to finish, to offer an insight as to just how comprehensive the work carried out is. An original Fiat 500L instruction book and running in supplement along with period road tests, spare keys and a CD of photos completes the history file.
MOT July 2016, HPI Clear.
