I got this about 4 months back off this very forum as a mot failure/rolling project. I did the work to get it road worthy and since then have been using it as an occasional bit of fun, but it's at the point where I either chuck some decent money at it to make it as good as I want it, or I move it on. I'm gonna offer it up for sale and if it doesn't sell I'll take it to the next stage (sort body work and fit a injected 3.9).
Model: vauxhall cavalier sports hatch
Year: 1980
Mileage:
MOT: about 8 months (will dig out the cert later)
Pics:
Location: Nuneaton
Price: £2000
Contact details: contact me through the forum, if anyone wants my number to chat about the car drop me a pm and I'll send it over
It's fitted with a carbed 3.5 rover V8, engine number seems to indicate that it's from a SD1. LT77 5 speed manual gearbox (gearbox and diff oil changed about a month ago). Good condition black and check manta interior. 14" weller mattigs (I believe these are 7j but haven't checked yet), with good tyres. Stainless exhaust (down pipes are not stainless).
Bad bits:
Car starts fist time, every time, but the carbs do need setting up. When I got the car one of the main jets was seized in the carb and wouldn't allow mixture adjustment, I have replaced the jet and it now adjusts but any further than setting them to run ok is beyond my skill level. One of the bolt holes on the head for the exhaust bolts has sipped it's thread causing that mani to blow. Rev counter doesn't work. Speedo doesn't work. Fuel gauge seems inaccurate. Glass sunroof fitted which doesn't leak but it also doesn't stay open if you want it too, the mech that holds it open seems too free to lock it open. Cosmetically it's fairly rough, most panels have some surface rust/patina and the paint is very tired. Passenger front wing is battered but a good used one does come with the car. The car over heats when sat in traffic although when driving it's fine, it only had a small rad fan on when I got it which really wasn't up to the job. I've since fitted a spal fan (think it's about 9") as well but due to limited space and the orginal fan positioning I was limited to how I could mount it so it's currently sucking instead of blowing. It has improved things but ideally it would benefit from a decent rad fan set up being fitted. Hand brake cable has snapped but I have a new one that I'll be fitting soon as I have the chance.
There are lots of random bits and spares with it.
All in all its a very good base for a cool retro rolling project that makes a fantastic noise.
