It is with reluctance I put my Standard Eight Turbo up for sale. I have a pending house move so she has to go '55 Standard Eight, early model with sliding windows and no bootlid. Body is in really good condition. Paintwork has a nice patina, no way near a concourse type thing, but just sits right. Lowered around 5-6 inches onto Appliance Wiremags Fitted with a screaming 660cc Suzuki Cappuccino engine and 5 speed box. These engines are awesome, as standard they have very high spec internals and can take a lot of hp for what is a small engine. Being small it revs to a redline of 9k. It is currently fitted with a K03 turbo from a Passat, this is a little large as boost comes in around 5.5k, I knew this before fitting, but it was available and it is bolt-on swappable with the turbo from the diesel variant which has a much smaller set of compressor wheels which should see boost come in about 4k and make her fly. She weighs roughly the same as a Cappuccino and they do 0-60 in 8secs and go onto 120ish mph. and that's with the engine as standard, which this isnt The engine if you pleased could be removed and sold to say a kitcar owner for a very tidy sum (standard they seems to be about £300-£500)as I spent many weeks sorting a stand alone wiring loom for it and it obviously has the custom top mounted turbo Tax and Mot Exempt makes this cheap motoring. Please note there are still lots of little bits and bobs to do. Mainly interior related, door cards, gauges etc, but this does not detract from is usability. Its hard to put a price on such a custom little car. I'm going to put her up for £3000 which is the lower end of decent early Eight prices

Ha, depends on how you look at it!
If you want flawless paint, this isn't it
If you want an honest car that wears its 60 years with pride, then she's for you. That's Patina

I would love to strike a deal with a properly registered Jago Jeep
Because I'm sure there is someone out there who has a really niche kit car and would love a really niche 50's car... Right?

Very nice car. I'm hearing this word "patina" alot recently on here. does it mean bad paint? The word 'patina' has been used for years and years. It simply means 'aged'.

Moar pictures... Dashboard-ish Binnacle houses rev counter (needs calibrating), Boost gauge and GPS speedo Cappuccino buckets Back seats removed and floorpan made flat. Needs a bulkhead of some sort here Err, Because: Turbo Front valance is currently black as its all I had when I fitted the intercooler, needs a dash of paint Engine really looks like it should of been there from factory Bulkhead is un-cut Big turbo - little engine... So there you go, as I said she needs some finishing, but then she's £3k and not £5k, and she really only needs time not money spending on her... Bit of interior work, doorcards, dash, rear bulkhead etc. Weld up a few little holes left from removing the old engine and spray the engine bay and she's a winner... Well no, she's a winner now, and she drives as is, so its your call...

This really is epic and I'm surprised it hasn't sold yet! I'd have bought it but I ran some insurance quotes through and only one company will insure me... For £9450 (and that's an unmodified one, let alone this) Sucks to be 17 sometimes Good luck with the sale though

I'm loving this tho the other half might kill me! Are the brakes/suspension upgraded at all? How does the engine run with the turbo on it? Rough in places or smooth until the boast kicks in? Are you using the standard gearbox or Susuki box? Are you insured with all mods declared I.e ride height, engine, turbo etc, at £84, and who do you insure though?
Cheers Andy

Brakes are standard drums, she weighs nothing and stops surprisingly well. I have made templates for an mgf disc and caliper upgrade up front, they just need laser cutting and would be massively overkill. That or Herald items bolt on, I've just never felt the need.
Suspension is standard up the back, the axle was put on top of the leafs for the lows. Oil could be thicker in the lever arms, or go for proper dampers. Up front she has Hillman Imp monte-carlo spec springs.
Engine runs lovely, the idle could do with tweeking with the new setup I reckon, but only in a fine tuning sort of way. Like I said, you really would want to drop the diesel variant of the turbo on. It would make her a much better drive.
She runs the 5 speed Cappuccino box, nice short throw
Everything is declared on insurance - it was actually cheaper than insuring her as standard (I know right, I did ask, but the bloke said the computer is happier because the engine is smaller!!!)
Brentacre came through for me on the insurance side. The £20 breakdown is a full, bring me home type jobby as well. Cant moan at that!
I'll say once more, she is still definitely a project, but only the finishing up stage. I've spent 3 years getting the engine in and right. And again, that's why she's £3k and not £5k

Have a quick walkaround video I've literally just done
Yes I will hoover the carpet before anyone looks at her
Yes the Rev gauge as mentioned is reading pretty much double at the minute (needs the pots on the back adjusting)
But! If the sound of a 60 year old car popping and spitting flames and chirping the turbo on the overrun doesn't make you throw your money at me, you aint alive!

This is all kinds of excellent, if only I had a use for it. I showed this a to friend the other day when we were discussing what our perfect car would be for living in Soho with a small private parking garage. This was my choice.
