1988 Alfa Romeo Alfasud Sprint 1.7 Veloce Green Cloverleaf
Rare 1988 Alfa Sprint. This is one of the later ones with the Alfa 33 running gear as opposed to the Alfasud. While they're basically similar, the later cars are much more modern.
The 1.7 flat four engine with twin downdraught Weber carbs and a close ratio 5 speed manual gearbox coupled to the legendary Alfasud ride and handling provide a genuinely involving and entertaining driving experience with an unmistakable addictive engine note.
Wearing the correct alloys and fundamentally complete, this classic Alfa project will make a rare, unusual and desirable classic car.
It has been stored since approx 2005 and is currently a non runner. On arrival we noticed that the coil was missing, the distributor cap lying on the passenger's seat and the HT leads were disconnected. We considered it reasonable to assume that there was an ignition problem leading to the car being put off the road.
It's an Alfa, so there is some rust needing attention. The rear arches and the screen surround are bubbly and there are various other areas of bubbling, but it is definitely restorable.
There are no keys, but it rolls and steers. We've applied for a V5 and will provide a full receipt.
It's basically complete and it needs some restoration, but once finished, it'll be a rare, sought after classic Alfa Romeo which, presumably because of its rarity and the driving experience, now appears to be fetching good money.
I bought it because I had one back in the day and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of owning it. However, realistically, customer's restorations mean that there's little prospect of this getting the attention it needs for quite some time, so I'm prepared to let it go to an enthusiast for restoration.
As it's not an old BMW, I'm not absolutely sure on value, but if it turns out that doesn't sell and isn't worth £1000 or very close to it, I'll not be terribly disappointed and we'll get around to restoring it next year. After the Peugeot 304 convertible. And after the Morris Minor and the 944.
We'll consider anything interesting - especially old BMW - in PX and we might be able to assist with transport - particularly to the far South West.
