Right.......... I am now miffed and tired of swearing, restarting on even the smallest jobs My Clarke welder, pictured below does a decent enough home hobby weld and even heavy stuff, but the torch started to fall apart, front tip ahead of trigger falling out/off longer ago than should be tolerated. I am about to start welding the sheet metal on the truck, and cannot work like this. So my question is this....... What is a Euro Torch? Is it easily compatible with my welder, in other words, can an idiot like me fit it without having to call a helpline? Or do I replace it with the clearly inferior original torch? ALSO...... As I have not opened it to look, can one upgrade the earth cable easily? The one fitted is very skinny. I did upgrade the clamp before as the pressed steel one was wibblepoo. All advice appreciated. Thanks. Torch Welder

I'm pretty sure a Euro torch is a torch and lead with a standardised plug on the end. Something like a trailer plug (not the same obviously) and it means you can fit any manufacturers torch to and machine. I've got a very old SIP welder and have had to modify it a bit to make it work better. Fortunately the basic torch/trigger is still OK. Can you get spares from Clarke still ?

Yes, euro torch has a plug on the end so you can swap for different sizes and lengths easily. You can buy receptacles to convert a welder as pictured above into Obe with a socket to suit, gives a wide range of options.
Also upgrading the earth should be do-able. In both cases over spec the ampage if you increase the length much so your welding capability doesn't reduce.

I will not upgrade the welder as it seems a PITA job but will replace the torch.

I think the outer cable is kinked and if I try and weld anything in a tight corner it stops it feeding properly. I've tried all sorts of new liners etc and it still isn't quite right. I will go looking for one now thanks for the info.

Try ebay, can get sockets on their own, or buy a conversion kit including a torch. Probably other places do similar, and a good quality torch is worth paying a bit extra for.

Hi grizz. Did you ever convert your welder to a Euro torch? I'm having the same trouble with my welder and, like you, I have put up with the torch falling to bit's for far too long. It's currently being held together with wood screws and electrical tape. The tip protrudes further than the shroud, the angled neck keeps coming loose and swinging round and if you try and weld without the cable in a dead straight line, the wire feed kinks and it refuses to run. Did you convert or just swap the torch for a newer one?

Can't remember which way round it was,but they changed the length of the shroud after a certain yr,it was either shorter or longer,i can't remember. My machine mart sold both types luckily.
