Right, so here is Robbie, a little Austin Mini who needs some love.
What can I say about Robbie?
Well, he’s a road legal, tested (May 2016) and taxed (though you can’t have the tax, stupid law) rolling Mini project. Being a special edition, Robbie is the perfect candidate for a full resto, or you could keep him tatty or style him your own way, it’s entirely up to you – he is a blank canvas!
So why am I selling Robbie?
Basically, I bought Robbie as a rolling project and thought I’d have the time, money and attention span to give him all the love he needs, turns out I was wrong (basically I’m a student and it’s not viable for me to have him currently), so I’m kinda sad about this but I know he would be better served elsewhere.
From what I can gather, Robbie has spent much of his time off of the road (having covered 47k in his 31 years on this planet) and thus he’s been passed around a lot, I guess due to people, like me, thinking that they can make a difference to him and realising they don’t have the time.
Prior to this year, Robbie had not been on the road since 2007 and was only returned to duty as he was deemed to be too nice to rip up and be a parts car. I don’t want him to spend another extended hiatus off the road, he needs to be used (not abused) and given the love he deserves. He would be okay to be driven around as he is, all tatty and whatnot then put away over the winter for some work or if you’re feeling “daring” you could keep driving him and do bits and pieces as you go. I’d guess he’d be good for a first-time Mini owner or a young person who wants to get into classics/older cars and wants to get a foot on the ladder in something they can actually use as a car and not just something that sits in a garage – insurance is dirty cheap tbh and he’s pretty good fun to drive!
He’s far from perfect but he’s a plucky little thing (he even did the London to Brighton this year covering a few hundred miles and helped me move home from uni for the summer) and has his merits. In order to get through his MOT he had a lot of repairs done to make him structurally sound, including a pretty much brand new subframe and came out with only one advisory: a slight exhaust manifold blow – I attempted this but didn’t seal it well enough, I will be having another crack at it before the sale or will happily give the clamp to his new owner. In recent months Robbie has benefitted from: new front shock absorbers, rear Spax adjustable shocks, hi los camber brackets, new brake hoses, a new clutch hose, a new master cylinder, a full service, new headlights, a head gasket change and more.
Robbie could also benefit from a new water pump (I have one); it currently works fine but I’d personally change it for peace of mind. He could also do with a new heater matrix as his has been known to be a wee bit leaky.
Now, given that he’s a Mini, Robbie obviously has some rust, there’s a fair few bits of surface and a couple of more substantial bits, such as part of the scuttle, this will most likely need to be cut and welded (but guess what, you can get the sections (as well as lots of other bits) from MiniSpares for decent monies!
Sadly Robbie’s original 3 clock dash with 120mph GT clocks and red seatbelts are missing (they went to his brother, another 25) but have been replaced with a 2 clock dash (on a slightly higher mileage)and black belts. However, he still has his 25 anniversary edition black leather wheel, special edition grey velour interior with red piping/accents (it’s rather soft, plush and comfy!), parcel shelf speakers (they look a wee bit like PC speakers though XD). Being a 25 also means that he was blessed with 12” wheels, disk brakes (rather than drums – much better for stopping!), pop-out rear windows and a high-ratio 4 speed box. And obviously he has his special decals - if you ever wish to paint him it is worth remembering that replacement decals are a thing and can be sourced relatively easily ^_^.
Mini 25’s are an uncommon breed, only 3511 were ever made and according to HowManyLeft (not always accurate but gives you a good idea) there are currently 128 on the road today. Essentially he is a Mayfair in a special costume but it’s a really special costume ;P
Price:£1400.00 ?? £1200
As a rather reasonable person (in my opinion haha) I am open to negotiation, I’m also open to the possibility of bringing Robbie part of the way to you if you’d struggle to make the entire trip, things can be arranged if you ask (: I may accept a swap or a part-exchange depending on what is offered but ideally I’d just like a straight sale as it makes life easier.
Robbie will come with a few things: some oil, spare gaskets, a brand new water pump & gasket and an exhaust clamp. There may be some others bits and pieces if I find them lying around.
I am located in Central Bedfordshire, right on the A1 and I would strongly encourage anyone that is interested to come and view him. I'm more than happy to answer any questions and send photos across in the meantime (:
Thank you for reading and I hope to hear from some of you guys soon
EDIT:
I think (she said hopefully) that I've created a Photobucket album. I had to use my phone (which was a traumatic experience) and it made me add a password but it should be functional.
