Hi all, selling my beloved MK1 Golf Cabriolet. I've had it for a few years but with me moving away from home I can no longer take care of it so it's time to sell!
This car has had 11 former keepers and was first registered on 17/01/1986. So far it has covered just over 113000 miles which is extremely low for a car of this type and age. The car has MOT until June next year and will be taxed upon sale. As the pictures show the car has the Clipper body kit installed and has also been modified (details below) and re-sprayed to a dark metallic green.
Modifications:
- Spax fully adjustable coilovers.
- Scorpion exhaust.
- Cobra alarm and immobiliser with sensors on doors, boot and bonnet.
- Wireless and electronic central locking operated through a key fob (spare also included)
- Mini Starmag wheels with custom hub adaptors. Yokohama A539 tyres all round; all have plenty of tread.
- Full hydraulic/electric hood system retrofitted.
- Momo race steering wheel
- Larger diameter drilled front disc brakes
- Re-sprayed in dark metallic green.
- Car has been swage line smoothed and the front bumper has also been smoothed
- The previous owner also applied a matt vinyl strip to each side of the car along with “sticker bombing” the front right corner and the rear left corner.
- Sony CD player with AUX input, Vibe front speakers and JBL subwoofer.
The good bits:
I have owned the car for the past 3 years, each moment of which I have dearly loved the car and I will be extremely sad to see it go! The car is stored on a private driveway under a fitted cover during winter and when possible uncovered, cleaned and maintained. During the summer months the car is then fully inspected and checked, usually with a fluid change at my local garage. One thing that always amazes me is how the car will start on the first turn of the key even after months of storage (I remove the battery and keep it trickle charged when the car is covered).
The car drives extremely well with no issues while driving, the engine pulls hard and never misses a beat. Handling is also excellent.
In 2005 it had a number of mechanical parts replaced; clutch, gearbox, gear linkage and starter motor. All of this means there are no niggling issues when driving with gear changes being as smooth and easy as my mum’s 2007 MK5 Golf.
The hood was also replaced in 2005 and is in immaculate condition with no rips or tears.
The engine runs very well with no fluid leaks and no odd noises when cold or hot.
Boot functions perfectly with the ram still holding the boot strong, the handle to release the rear seats for folding is also functioning perfectly.
All windows are still fully functional and seal properly against the hood.
The car flew through its last MOT requiring only a few bulbs and a new CV boot.
Loads of receipts and previous MOTs showing majority of previous work on car. There’s even a dyno run graph!
Car will also be supplied with a tonneau cover for the roof when folded down and a fitted winter storage cover.
The bad bits:
As can be expected with a car of this age there are some bad points that need mentioning. I am honest and have noted anything and everything I have found wrong with the car.
During storage this year the car was bumped into and so has a dent in the front right wing, the paint has not been damaged so paint-less dent removal should be able to bring it out. I’m extremely annoyed that this happened as the car is covered in storage and so it wasn’t noticed until it was removed to clean and sell.
There is a small amount of bubbling on the front left wheel arch however this is the ONLY sign of bubbling or rust on the entire car.
There are two small tears in the drivers seat bolsters, something that can be fixed with a re-trim if required.
An upper door piece trim is missing on the drivers side as it was lost during the re-spray with a new piece being difficult to source.
There is a small amount of curbing on the front left wheel, all other wheels are in good condition except for a small amount of lacquer cracking on all wheels due to storage over winter.
There is a small cigarette burn from many years ago in the rear bench seat. I can assure you I do not smoke so this car will not have any musty smells.
The rear heated window no longer works.
