1987 VW Golf MK 2 GL auto
I bought this high spec MK 2 Golf automatic in March when my beetle failed it's mot and needed a couple of months work.
It's been a reliable runner too. I drove from Surrey up to Southport and was a pleasure to drive. I didn't expect much from the auto box but it's a pleasure to use and works exactly as it should. Nippy and not at all terrible on the go go juice either.
Spec
Early Typ 19 model with 1/4 windows etc
Power steering
Central locking
Electric windows
Headlining in pretty much perfect condition.
Seats are in outstanding condition. In fact the whole interior has worn incredibly well.
It's had a webber carb conversion and manual choke fitted.
Uncut parcel shelf. Not bowed or sagging- perfect.
Cd player with aux
Factory tinted glass
New windscreen
93,800 miles
Auto box - changes perfectly.
Velour interior with height adjustable drivers seat
BBS wheels with excellent nearly new tyres
Lowered
One key fits all locks
Mot March 2016
I've replaced boot struts
Genuine Golf rubber mats

Now I don't want to waste anyone's time so I'm going to list everything I know isn't up to scratch on the car. I've taken photos showing any damage etc.
Small 10p size hole at bottom of passenger wing.
Few scrapes and dings here and there on the 28 year old paint. I have a set of plastic early MK 2 full wheel arch trims which I'll chuck in. Someone has blown in the rear arch after a scrape and it's not a good match.
Like quite a few Mk 2 Golf auto's the starter resonates when turning the key. Not an issue, just a noisy starter for a few seconds.
Roof has been painted and needs flatting and polishing
No aerial
Minor oil leak.
Unfortunately I don't have any service history. It belonged to an old dear before who had lost it all.
Passenger side rear window doesn't roll down. It must have been left slightly open at one point as the door card on that side has perished at the bottom. Can't tell when the door is shut though.
I think there's an exhaust clamp loose. Can hear it rattling when you go over a pot bumps.
I paid £1000 back in March. I've had my use and the car is pretty much the same as it came to me. Nearly all of the niggles I've listed here you could easily live with - none affect the reliability or how nicely this car drives! Just don't want someone turning up and finding unexpected things on the car!
Looking for £695. Located in Merseyside.
