Hi all My son (TheHouse) has been a long time advocate of this forum, and has finally convinced me to join up and start a build thread. Quick spec is as follows: Its an early 1966 s1 Mk2 Cortina in Blue Mink, currently running a Connaught Competition Engines built 1700 xflow, at around 145bhp. I will do a full build thread for it later on but here is a few quick introductory photos.

Hi and welcome to RR. That is a very tidy looking and lovely Cortina. I bet it makes a nice noise too on those side draughts? Full build thread required please mr 1700xflow, must include lots of pics too!

Nice mk2. A build thread would be nice. I've just spent the last year and counting welding my 2 door series 1 GT. (Also blue mink). Nice to see a finished one as inspiration.

I will have to show Dad how to write the full build thread and add photos later on, but for now the spec of the car is as follows:
1966 early Mark 2 Cortina (s1) Blue Mink paint Originally it was a 1300 deluxe, however when we picked it up it had been converted to 1600 GT running gear all around.
Interior: S1 dash, which has the 4 gauge pod on top, much like on the 1600E Period correct Astrali steering wheel 1600E black leather seats White nylon gear knob
Exterior: Blue Mink paint Cibie spotlamps All original chromework 13x7 Minilite wheels
Suspension and brakes: Gaz adjustable shocks all round Mk3 capri single leaf rear springs 2.5inch lowering blocks Mk2 Lotus front springs Fully poly bushed Austin Princess 4 pot front brake calipers
Engine bay: All wiring tidied into wiring conduit Custom SFS blue silicone hoses Big head radiator with electric fan Accuspark electronic ignition Facet Silvertop fuel pump with filter king Catch can with oil breather filter
Engine: Connaught Competition Engines built 1689cc xflow Standard 1600 block, rebored 1300 +90 lightweight pistons New piston rings Balanced crankshaft Ex formula ford big valve head Full port and polish on the head Valve seats uprated for unleaded New valves, valve guides, stem seals New uprated single valve springs Steel rockers and rocker shaft Duplex timing chain and sprockets Lightened flywheel Stage 1 AP clutch Piper 285 camshaft Weber twin 40 DCOES Long ram inlet manifold 105speed Mass style exhaust manifold Custom single box exhaust by Pipecraft (Maybe? Can't remember)
Engine set up by BD Engineering, and dyno'd before the 105speed manifold was fitted at 135 bhp at 6200rpm, although the power graph was still climbing when he let off. We are planning to get them to re dyno it, ideally to 6800 or thereabouts and we are expecting probably 145-150bhp
Would just like to mention a special thanks to young Sam at Connaughts, built the engine himself and we couldn't be happier with it.

It is very tidy, although there is a bit of rust around the front and rear screens which will be done soon enough...

Quite hard to keep this thread going, as it's a pretty much finished project! Alfa seat fitting was a massive pain in the backside, glad we finally did it though. The seats are super comfy, and with the added benefeit of an armrest for the driver. Also the drivers side one is height adjustable, which suits me as Dad is a lot shorter than I am... Clutch slave cylinder was a bit drippy, so that's been removed and sent off to be rebuilt. Also took off the master cylinder to give it a clean up whilst everything else is off. We were discussing the hoses in the engine bay the other day, and since then all of the breather pipework has been changed for black. However, we're still not sure about the blue silicone SFS hoses, was wondering if black would look better instead? What do you guys think?

I'd definitely go for black! More period and just looks much better That's a gorgeous cortina, love it! So glad you've kept all the chrome, nothing worse than a classic car which has been de-chromed.

About 18 years ago in my home town of Romford I used to see a very similar mk2. Mink blue, 2 door though, low, lotus steels, hot xflow, imaculate and stunning. Nice hot mink mk2 for that reason is one of my all time favourite cars. Not sure why ive never owned one! I also vote black hoses

That is one superb Cortina. I didn't realise that Blue Mink was available that early on the mk2.
