I love my e28 but the wing mirrors are terrible. Truly terrible.
I've been toying with the idea of fitting dtm style mirrors. I know there isn't a base plate available but what would be the closest one do you think? There a base plate for the newer m5 but I don't think that is anywhere near the same shape.
Also was there only one type of mirror available for the e28 or did the m5 have a slightly different one? I recently saw one in a car park and its looks smaller and it looked like it fixed to the base plate top and bottom, instead of just the bottom like the standard mirrors.

All E28 mirrors were the same from 82-88.
You could always try the smaller chrome items from an E12?

I did think they were all the same, must of been my eyes playing up because they were coloured coded. Just thought I'd check
I've been searching for the chrome ones for nearly a year now. They are pretty much non existent in the uk. I did find an american who said he had some but apparently didn't own a camera to take a pic of them so I could check the condition. Which in 2015 I found hard to believe.
The chrome were mainly used in Europe and they were only supplied as a diver side over taking mirror and the other side was blanked off. There was a few made with "our" drivers side as well. when you do find a set you then get to start searching for the plate that sits in the door as the E28 isn't the same as the E12.
Which is why I'm thinking of modifying some DTM style mirrors.
Other than the standard and the chrome E12, I've never saw an E28 with different mirrors.
I'm starting to think there is a reason for this.......

e23/E24 chrome mirrors are also pretty much identical to the E12 mirrors, you'd just have to work out how to fix them to the car as the mounting is different.
Advantage is there's plenty of old 6's and 7's being broken.

They're slighter larger but from what I've read they don't match up at all. I've thought about buying one and just seeing what can be done but they aren't that cheap to buy (or at least I cant find one cheap enough)
The does look similar. Do you know how it is different? The shape wrong?
