1978 corvette, black with black interior,
350 (5.7l) engine with 3 speed th350 gearbox, lots of fairly recent performance/replacment parts (a cam of unknown lumpiness!!/carb/intake/headers/distributor/starter motor/calipers/hoses/pipes etc etc)
its only been in the country for about 6 or 7 months so no rust on either the chassis or floorpan
has about 6 months mot remaining, its getting on a bit now so it obvs needs a few little jobs sorting out, nothing major, i simply just havent got the time at the moment !!!!
theres nothing (imo) very serious, for example the clock and heater motor don't work, iv not looked for a possible cure to either as its not my daily car so tbh I'm not really bothered.......i havent even checked the fuses so it might be a really really easy fix lol !!!
in really heavy rain the t-tops leak a bit, nothing some new seals wouldnt sort out tho,
it could do with a wheel alignment as it pulls a little to the right, again its not enough for me to get around to having sorted
one of the headights is slow to open, a common corvette issue iv been told and the fix is in the form of a 7 quid actuator seal from the states that perish over time
what else......
the interior is clean with no obvious rips, it looks all original and has the sort of wear you'd (hopefully) expect given the cars age but its very presentable
the paint looks good still, its not a show winning car and prob never will be so again, the paint has the expected chip here and there, the worst being a bit of crazing on the nose (another common corvette complaint I'm told, given the length of the nose I'm not surprised they get the odd knock !!)
engine wise its got a lumpy cam which if i were to keep the car would be replaced as it doesnt really suit the auto trans, again just imo! an edelbrock torker 11 inlet, edelbrock carb (600 iirc) accel leccy distributor, hedman headers, edelbrock r/covers, finned alloy air filter, its also had a recent starter motor, oil + filter and spark plugs,
the bellhousing bolts don't look standard so i expect the motor has been out, maybe for a freshen up as it holds 80 odd psi of oil pressure at idle when cold, dropping to around 30-40 at idle when hot, uses no water or oil and sounds good, again - who knows for sure ?
the th350 trans feels like it may have a shift kit fitted as it shifts really hard into 2nd gear with a chirp from the tyres, could really use an aftermarket t/converter to better match the cam if left fitted but it all works as it should
the wheels are 8x15 'somethings', not too sure what they are but its been suggested they might be centerline champ 500's but who knows ??!!
i did take them off to look for info and found cast into each........ MPC/ARE DOT-T USA 15X8 MOLD 4......I'm still non the wiser !!!
i guess i could prattle on for ages and pick faults with it but if i just say its a 'good to use as is' corvette that makes a nice racket and makes you (and everyone else it would seem !!) smile as you trundle about then that would prob sum it up best,
as we all swap stuff i guess thats not out of the question so after some careful thinking (something I'm rubbish at !!) i may be interested in....
something american with a v8 and rear seat, camaro/firebird/trans-am/hemi cuda (lol!) mustang etc
but iv also always had a hankering for an american pick up that i guess i should do something about 1 day so a c10 or similar
a nice tidy manta coupe or capri
tbh i don't know, what you got ?
i only bought it a few months ago just to 'scratch an itch' iv had for years but now i need to be slightly more practical and get something with rear seats...........but not too practical so will be looking for something equally stupid - it just needs more seats and needs to be interesting!!!
i don't mind something needing a bit of work that i can do over time as long as it runs fine, a little welding or paint is cool, just aint got time or space for huge mechanical projects
agreed value for insurance is 12.5k so please keep any offers sensible
the pics are from when i bought the car, it looks exactly the same (a bit more dirty as it gets used lol !!) but will sort some fresh ones asap
if anyone needs more details please ask
cheers
