1998 R-reg 1.8i 16v - Not VVC
5-speed manual transmission
Unique Brooklands green coachwork with contrasting Tan hood and matching leather interior and chrome pack (door handles, interior ashtray) Hood has been recently replaced with an approved MG item. The car also has a tan tonneau cover for when the roof is down.
Currently having a new catalytic converter and track rod end fitted and then will be sold with full 12 months MOT.
V5 and two sets of keys/alarm fobs present.
This car has been cosseted and maintained/improved mechanically regardless of cost
Full History and lots of receipts etc...
Speedo shows 137953 miles but engine was professionally replaced with a brand new 'pallet engine' from MG Rover/Powertrain in 2006 - car has covered roughly 4000 miles on new engine and
The car is now declared SORN and will only be driven to the test station for its retest once repaired.
Suspension has been uprated with SPAX shock absorbers and Powerflex polyurethane bushes and offers fantastic precise handling and a keen sporting drive. (See pictures)
Brakes have been uprated with 'big brake' vented, drilled and grooved discs, and Goodridge braided hoses. These do an amazing job of stopping the car, even without ABS.
Recently had 2 new tyres fitted to the rear of the vehicle - Goodyear Eagle F1 all round. Plenty of tread and give fabulous road holding, like the proverbial to a blanket. Look very good wrapped around the unique Abingdon alloys. Spare wheel is a full size alloy with same top quality tyre.
The interior has been tastefully upgraded with a wooden rimmed steering wheel to match the dash trim, and the original very worn MOMO gear knob has been replaced like for like. There is some wear on the driver's seat bolster which would benefit from a localised repair. The original MG Rover cassette player is still installed and the car also has a 6-CD changer installed behind the passenger seat.
The bodywork is the main area of the car in need of attention. As you can see from the pictures the car looks well from a distance and polishes up lovely but up close leaves a little to be desired;
1. Very deep scratch on bonnet - needs a repair to prevent rusting
2. Water marks on bonnet - I have tried to polish these out with compound but with limited success - given the scratch damage it may be easier to have the bonnet re-sprayed and solve both issues in one go.
3. Front bumper has a small crack underneath on the driver's side - badger damage.
4. The usual 'F' rust around rear air intake vents - passenger side is worse than drivers side but both would benefit from repair.
5. Rust to rear wheel arches.
6. Minor scratching and scrapes all over paint work.
The car is currently fitted with a chrome luggage rack and a MG suitcase. This will only be allowed to go with the car if the price is right. There is a selection of spares and accessories with the car also - again these will be sold separately unless the price is right. Price is very negotiable.
So the car is ready to go for driving thrills, or would be a fabulous rare enthusiasts car which would grace any collection given a little work.
Being sold on behalf of a friend who works away and doesn't have time to fully appreciate the car - inviting offers around £2500
