Red (well, faded red) Mk1 Eunos that was bought last year with the intention of using it for track events. However it recently failed the MOT on a few things, and the welding being done (for one of the MOT failure points) unveiled a bit more welding work than we were prepared to take on.
It can be used as a parts donor or (if you like welding) a project (perhaps as the basis as a track car)
Having no MOT, I would not advise driving the car on the road, so it will probably need to be towed/trailered
Not open to any swaps at the moment…
So, the good, the bad and the ugly…
Good:
Runs sweetly, despite its high miles (204k miles/325k kilometres)
Gets up to temperature fine and stays there.
Drives nicely and pulls up straight and has good (but very firm – suspect this may be aftermarket) suspension
The front left wing is relatively new and is in good condition – believed to be an original replacement part
Hood was replaced with a refurb part a few years back although there is a leak into the cabin, but no obvious rips, so it's unclear if this is the hood. There is a plastic window despite what the picture suggests – it’s just been zipped out so it doesn’t get damaged when the roof is folded
Gearchange feels typically MX5 tight
It has the rarer wheels (see pics), which, whilst not in showroom condition, have no major damage, just a bit of pitting from usage/age.
All 4 tyres are Toyo Proxes, the rear 2 being approx. 2.5mm, and the front 2 in very good condition. (the one in the close up pic had been resting on the floor whilst the car was jacked up, it hasn't been driven against a kerb)
Decat stainless steel exhaust – sounds great (although slight patch needed ideally)
Brake discs look reasonable
Has aircon as it’s an import – the compressor turns, but it is not blowing cold air – no idea if it’s the usual ‘just needs regassing’ or something more
Passenger window goes up and down (as it is a replacement door with a manual window!)
The parts required for the MOT failures on the gaiters/dust covers have been bought and are included with the car.
Quite a bit of history with the car
All the lights work including the popup headlights (have sorted the 2 bulbs that were on the MOT failure)
It qualifies for classic insurance
Bad.
Underneath has various welding required – the actual MOT failure area has been patched up, but further investigation shows further work required…
Plenty of trim rattles
Driver’s seat has bolster wear
Driver’s electric window inoperative (and it won't currently stay up) However, the car has been garaged, so there is no water damage inside (although there is a bit in the boot on the carpet)
Wipers when on intermittent setting only go up, although on speeds 1 or 2, they go up and down fine so not an mot failure point
Has speakers (untested) but no stereo (which is a shame as there are plenty of trim rattles)
Slight exhaust manifold leak
The front mudguard mounting screw holes rusted, so these had to be removed.
Ugly
Very small crack at bottom left of winscreen, very much in the corner – was not mentioned on MOT
Paintwork – lots of lacquer peel and fading and a few untidy repairs
Rear bumper has fading, and also crazing from light knocks
Petrol tank appears to have had a small repair, but no obvious leaks as far as I can tell
PM for further details.
I will add some more pictures tomorrow.
