I looked at both 740 and 750 in 2006
I settled on the 740 as the bork potential of a 750 was just too frightening
The difference in mpg is negligable at cruising speeds (quite different round town mind you)
The 735 wouldn't have been a good idea - all the drawbacks of a 4.4 V8 in terms of complication but none of the mpg benefits of being a smaller capacity.
If you paid buttons for it then it'll break for more than it cost.
Still have mine..... It'll return 33mpg on a run and surprisingly 27 mpg towing 2000 kgs of 4 wheel'd car trailer
Nice place to be - just a slightly irritating jiggly ride

I ran a 750iL last year, replaced a 728i i had for a while (and loved), passed it on as i couldn't get used to the weight and borkage potential, most of my driving is round the doors so it seemed wasted, also half the kit didn't work in mine (sunroof, mirrors, screen on dash etc) which spoiled it a bit, did get the phone working though which was fun. Shamefully i scrapped the blue 728i Also replaced the self leveling rear shocks for standard as it was sitting lop sided when i got it. Came with 18" Style 32's though i sold it with 18" M-Parra replicas, still have the Style 32's, going to fit them to my current E34.

Nice stroke of luck on the tank. Price up a tank and the labour to fit and be happy someone else bore the cost...

Ahaa well thank you, up until now I'd managed to keep my impulse purchases to car parts, the jump to actual cars is either a very good or very bad thing! It's definitely one of the two, but don't let that stop you Nice motor, lots of cylinders (most important), bookmarked!

Shamefully i scrapped the blue 728i You scrapped an E38??? What on God's green earth am I reading? Why? Did you crash it, drive it into a lake or did the floor fall off? Things are not right in the UK. I have to go lie down for a while.

The most important thing though its a MANUAL The OP's one is a heathermillsmatic - albeit with a tip facility Oh and if they feel a bit lethargic of the line - the default gear to start when at operating temp is 2nd unless you are on an incline, need to knock the shift lever away from you to engage sport mode and then it'll pull away in first

love it, i had a v8 one, bought with 235k on it and sold it with 280K, amazing cars, but gearboxes are fragile [change the box oil asap] and they seem to eat the suspension arms regularly. currently in an e39 and the handling is a lot better

Things are not right in the UK. I have to go lie down for a while. I know, but the MOT was due, i bought the 750iL intending to get a new MOT on the 728i and sell it, the 728i failed the MOT on the CAT and front suspension arms, £240 for a CAT, £85 for suspension arms, add to this the fuel tank had been Fibreglassed and was leaking (advised in MOT), i wanted the lights and wheels off it for the 750iL, no time or patience to break for spares, decided it was worth sod all whole, gave it to my neighbour who owns a yard. Should have kept the 728i and done the work to it as i didn't bond with the 750iL

bstardchild Yeahh the more I read about the 735 the less it seemed to be a good idea, not that a cheap 750 is exactly the best idea, but it seems fine so far! The fact it was so cheap was part of my reasoning for getting it, the extras that are on it would sell for a bit I imagine and the car itself would probably weigh in pretty well markgenesis thankfully quite a lot of the toys seem to work on this one, including the electric rear seats. Though I do have two odd coloured wing mirrors which I'm sure isn't right haha The telephone, sat nav and TV don't work on mine but I'd like to get them working somehow and update them slightly. The idea of having digital TV, or bluetooth while keeping it all looking period correct appeals to me Mine did have the EDC 'sports' suspension from new, but I have no idea if its still working.. the button on the dash doesn't seem to affect the ride greatly A 728i makes a lot of sense to me in hindsight, if it wasn't for my greed for extras and engine capacity I would probably have bought one (though I did want that V8 sound..) Also 18's (at least) may well be in this cars future eternaloptimist Been having a look through the paperwork, the tank was apparently replaced by BMW under warranty goodwill in 2007, then there is another receipt from a BMW garage quoting for another tank in 2013 for more than I paid for the car!! at least this shows the car was cared for I guess glen62 Sadly just an auto, although I think the 'box really suits the car and the tiptronic mode lets me shift, even if the box will shift up by itself if I'm getting near the redline Curtis We shall see legend The gearbox seems to be fine at the moment so I'm tempted to leave it as is for the time being, the car seems to have had some suspension work carried out by previous owners and doesn't seem to suffer from the E38/9 shimmy so I'm pretty happy with that! Some plans are starting to come together in my head for the car now, and some bits are being bought Small bits at first as I do have a Saab to finish and an MG to restore, but this will be getting some attention too!

It's not on 18's - I'd reserve judgement till it was I bought mine on 18's and it had a slight shimmey - I swapped then to 16's and I ran it for 7 years with no shimmey Finally finished refurbing the 18's and slapped a set of tyres on it and fitted them - jesus the shimmey was horrific £400 worth of bushes and arms purchased to solve it

Great car, great buy, hard to see the colour of the interiour, is that navarra? I'm on my 3rd 750, well, technically I've only used 2 as dailies, bought the 3rd one for spares. They are lovely cars if they are sorted out, mine has the shimmy of course which will need investigation come winter. Good luck with it

Love it! I really wanted an E38 but in the end with my lack of mechanical/electrical knowledge I wasn't brave enough cos any issues would be a garage job. Spose if its cheap enough tho u can't go wrong as u say. Good luck with it!!
