Well I've had this a fair few months now, and it's been good (clinical) fun. But I am really hankering after a Volvo or a Merc at the moment. Would love a 940/740/240 or any bargey Merc really. But open to anything retro.
1989 Sunny 1.4 LS
29,000 from new. (yes, really)
12 months MOT
Uber retro gloss black steel wheels (painted by a professional in a laboratory style environment, aka me in my garage with hammerite)
Roof rack may or may not be included (Probably not)
The body has the odd small beginning of surface rust but is in immensely good condition, I was massively impressed when I first saw it. The underside is immaculate. I've Dinitrol'd most areas myself to try and keep it that way. Since picking it up I've;
Two brand new CV boots as the old ones were shot.
Soldered in a new voltage regulator as the fuel and temp gauge was intermittent. Common fauilt, work flawlessly now.
Had the stereo wiring stripped back to basics as it was a mess, I've also installed some Micra speakers as it had none. The radio works but the reception isn't brilliant but works 90% of the time, just tends to crackle when surrounded by trees. (thanks to the chap from here who did the wiring for me)
General tidy up, I've tried to treat any exposed box sections and all the brake pipes etc. Done a LOT of cleaning inside, in particular the carpets.
It's just been put through an MOT by my local council station who are quite stringent. It failed on a number plate bulb (replaced) some small blows on the exhaust (patched) and the flexi hose clip had fallen off which I subsequently mounted back into place with a high tech solution (zip tie) They put an advisory for a blow on the rear exhaust section, as this is new and hasn't been fit very well. It doesn't bother me and it isn't too loud so I've left it. Put it back in an hour later and it now has a shiny 12 months.
Engine is like a sewing machine. It lives in my garage and hasn't left a single stain of any fluid. Auto choke, clicks off as it should. Brakes are good, electronics all work. Gearbox is like silk, the change is so precise and soft it's a pleasure. 5 speed too. Interior is VGC, cleans up really well. The oil when I first got it was like honey and looked like it had come out of a tub a week prior, so I haven't changed it as didn't see a point. Gets upto temperature quick and stays there.
Optional extras:
two window regulators are pooped. passenger front has been given the 2x4 treatment and stays solidly up, but I've disconnected the button. Rear O/S is cacked and held up by a door stop. Doesn't move though.
sunroof has a little leak which I may or may not have fixed (I will certainly try)
And thats it, I literally can't fault it otherwise. As 80's white goods transport it is utterly brilliant. It won't get you excited in anyway possible but I would bet my house it will still be driving around after the apocalypse.
it's also the first car I've owned to actually be flagged down road side several times (and on one occasion actually chased two miles home) by people wanting to buy it. strange.
Ignore the white on the tyre, it's mud.
£950 ono or open to swaps, can put cash in for something with more value if I like it.
