We did some online driving licence checks at work last week with the new code thing and tested the process on my own to see what we got back from the gov.uk pages.
All the categories I was expecting to see were there along with a batch of others at the bottom which had rather vague descriptions of the vehicles I am entitled to drive. The most intriguing is category N - vehicles exempt from vehicle excise duty. Now I know what the proper answer might be, but I wanted absolute clarification. Are snow ploughs, Traction engines, anything over 40 years old fair game?
I rang DVLA to ask what the scope of vehicles was for this category, only to be told that DVLA couldn't tell me as they don't set the criteria. VOSA was a no too. I did think about going to the local cop shop, but I think we all know that sometimes the Police think they are all knowing, but can be sometimes wide of the mark (remembering I spent 45 minutes in the back of a Police car outside my house being repeated told I couldn't ride my moped on a car licence (passed in October 1987), even though I pointed to "p" on the licence saying I could).
Anybody know without doubt what this category "N" entitles me to use?
