Hello all.
A regrettable sale this one, but I am putting the 190 up for sale.
The basics are, she is a late (L plate) 2.6 straight-6 with 4 speed automatic transmission.
The car is finished in Bornite metallic (one of the more sought after 190 colours, only available for the last 2 years of production) with mushroom leather interior. As well as the factory leather, she has the sportline chassis pack (which consists of 22mm lowered uprated springs, uprated shocks, thicker anti roll bars, quicker steering box and wider than standard 15" alloys with lower profile tyres). Other factory options include electric windows all round, electric sunroof, rear headrests, front armrest, headlight wash/wipe, outside temperature display (slight bleed on screen), leather trimmed steering wheel and gearknob, plus there's a nice retro looking Blaupunkt Miami CD radio, which looks like the original dealer fit job. All electrics work apart from the aerial which is stuck in the up position. The motor still works though, so probably just needs a replacement mast, which are still available.
This is my sixth 190 now, and bodywork-wise, it has to be the best I've had so far. Front wings are perfect, as are the doors and the rear arches are like new. Underneath the arches, it is all clean and the normally rot prone jacking points and drain holes underneath are rock solid and have the proper rubber bungs and grommets still fitted. There are a few light scratches and touched in stone chips, but the paint is generally in good condition and polishes up well. The worst part cosmetically is two dents about 5p size on the n/s/f door, caused by kids throwing stones.
Engine is the great M103 2.6 straight 6, with 160 bhp. It's a lovely, smooth, torquey engine with a great soundtrack. This one starts well enough, idles nicely and pulls like a train.
The 4 speed Merc auto boxes are regarded as bulletproof. The one in this car works as it should in standard and economy mode. Kickdown is especially effective.
The car drives and handles really well for a large-ish barge. The straight six motor and sport suspension make for a decent sports saloon, although the sportline suspension does ride noticeably firmer and can crash and thump a bit on bad roads compared to a standard chassis 190.
In common with most 190s, the diff does have a bit of a whine at lower speeds, but it's not hugely noticeable. 5 out of my 6 190s have all had it.
The interior is generally good. The only real problem is another common 190 one, the door cards. 3 of them have lifted slightly, but still look quite respectable. The n/s/r one though has lifted quite badly and split along the top rail. There is a fix however on the 190 forum using plastic capping, which I have a couple of lengths of.
Other wise the interior is lovely, the leather seats are among the best I've seen on a 190. Original MB velour overmats are still in place, and are in great condition.
In all, a rock solid example of a 190 with a rare spec and colour combination. There are however a few jobs yet to do to make it a great example.
1) The car has a small coolant leak, which quite a few 190 forum members have diagnosed as a leaking water pump. I check the level every couple of days and it takes about half a litre a week (with mileage about 150 miles a a week) The car behaves perfectly normally and never overheats. I have a brand new water pump for it, which will go with the car.
2) The strut top mounts have gone around the tops. Again I have a new pair of quality replacements, which again are included with the car.
3) The heater motor, while it does work, does get noisy at times so will most likely need replacing. The likes of europarts and GSF do reasonably priced replacements for this.
4) The car has done about 6000 miles since it's last service so will need doing soon.
This makes the car sound like a nightmare I suppose, but its all DIY able. I'm just gutted I don't have the time at the moment to get all the jobs done. As with a lot of folk these days, work and family commitments are just getting in the way nowadays.
All the above jobs are covered in the tech sections on the mercedes-190.co.uk forum. Only the waterpump change is really labour-intensive. If you're interested in these cars it's well worth having a look on there anyway, it's a genuinely good, friendly forum.
So now, have some pictures!
Any other pics required, I'll be happy to oblige.
Sadly the car was involved in a light accident in late 2013. The rear bumper corner was hit, which caused a crease in the rear quarter and some loss of paint.
Only minor damage, but enough to make the car a category D write off. The car was saved by the previous owner, put into a bodyshop and the rear quarter was repaired to a very good standard.
Unfortunately the service history seems to have been lost in the process of it being written off. But this didnt put me off as I've had several 190s over the years and this one just struck me as 'right'. My MOT tester who I've been using for years told me that it's all spot-on underneath and looks like it's been well looked after over the years. All four sportline springs are fairly recent replacements and I know from experience that they aren't cheap!
Before the accident, the car was owned for 12 years so the owner at the time must have loved it. It still wears it's original dealer number plates, window sticker and has the original tax disc holder. All handbooks etc are in the Mercedes wallet and the car has it's unopened first aid kit and tool kit.
Mileage is 146,000 and MOT is till November. Last test only had one advisory for a tyre, which has been replaced.
Price is £995 ovno. This hopefully takes into account the work it'll need to get it into a lovely car again. Good 2.6 sportlines are getting rare and sought after, especially with a good spec and colour
Any enquiries, please PM or ring on zero seven eight one three hundred nine eight two five if you would like to chat about the car. The car is located in Middlesbrough, very near bus, rail and airport links.
Thanks for looking.
