Up for sale is my MK3 Golf GTI. It will have a new MOT put on this month, so will come with 12 months of MOT depending on when you purchase.
It is an 8v model finished in LC9Z - Diamond Black. I have not seen a great deal of GTI's in this colour lately.
Engine & Transmission
This is the 115bhp 2.0 8V engine. Whilst being down on horsepower over the 16V it is no slouch and has a really strong torque curve. It idles beautifully with no hesitation, runs nice at all times with no misfires, hesitation, pinking or anything untoward. I do a lot of trips to London and even in the recently hot weather stuck in traffic for hours the temperature gauge holds perfectly steady at the prescribed temp.
It returns phenomenal mpg's (although I am used to fairly silly stuff so my view may be biased) with the average mpg reading at 31mpg and the trip to/from London with motorway cruising reading anything from 35-40mpg.
The vehicle has been well serviced by the previous two owners with a lot of VW service stamps from Loders of Dorchester - the original sales centre, and then one independent garage has serviced for ~last 10 years. Last service was ~4000 miles ago.
Suspension/Chassis
This was one downside when I purchased the car last year - the shocks were well past their sell-by date and the car handled like a boat with a lot of rebound and poor body control. This has been solved by fitting Bilstein B4 shocks all round mated to Eibach Sportline lowering springs. I decided to not go for coilovers as I wanted to keep the car fully useable and comfortable whilst making the ride and handling a lot sharper and controlled than before.
There are no untoward noises from the suspension and steering with nothing loose or worn coming through the steering feel and turn in is really progressive with the previous generation, weighted power steering.
Brakes are really good on the car with great feel, discs all round and pull the GTI up really well. Again no untowards noises, brakes straight and handbrake works well.
At the same time as the suspension was fitted I decided to upgrade the wheel size to a 16" wheel with lower profile and slightly wider tyres to comliment the improved suspension. A set of period and freshly refurbished Borbet T's found their way onto the car in 16 x 7.5 flavour with lower profile tyres with plenty of tread left on them all round.
Interior
The interior is finished in all black with a grey headlining. This is not sagging anywhere as a lot are, and the interior is only let down by on small hole in the drivers side bolster - as seen in the picture.
Apart from this it is a great place to be with a ridiculous amount of room for a small hatchback.
It is equipped with electric heated mirrors, 4x electric one touch windows, electric tilt and slide glass sunroof, drivers airbag, 10CD Changer with tape deck in the headunit (!!), fully functional MFA with no missing pixels and with all info readouts functional. Everything does what is should, when it should as it was designed to do.
The windscreen was replaced in late June this year - so this is lovely and unmarked
Exterior
This is a 19 year old car - as many cars of this age it carries some light marks on the leading edge of the bonnet and some paint marks around the drivers lock along with a small mark on the boot - please don't expect a fully clayed, glass finish. Saying that I am very picky with my paint and it is still very presentable as you can see from the pictures with no rust around the bodywork.
So come have a look around, give it a drive and see how much you like it.
The only reason for sale is I have already got its replacement - a B4 Audi S4 Avant, so I am not looking to part ex.
