1979 Mitsubishi Sapporo MK1. This was 1 of 660 manual’s to be registered in 1979. Total Sapporo’s for the year were 1154. With the facelift coming in 1980, I don’t know the total of MK1 UK models but it’s in the region of 2,600.
There’s just 34 registered now. No doubt there’s a few in hiding but with just 4 actually on the road, you’re not going to see another!
This one is quite a bold project and will require considerable welding. Both sills, rear arches, rear suspension turrets and parts of the floor, plus general tidying. The engine bay area is very good and the general chassis underneath is tidy. It’s do-able and worth saving but plan for a few months work. Comes with outer sills. I removed the seats, carpet and centre console to inspect the floors. They are all included but loose obviously. Dash etc is all in place. Interior will want cleaning as it’s a bit grim. Steering wheel no good and but everything else should clean up. When it ran things worked - lights, gauges, clock and so forth. I can't promise they do now but nothing was obviously broken at the time. Last on the road in 2004.
Has a 2 litre engine and 5 speed manual box. Rear wheel drive. Engine last ran 2 years ago and I drove it around my yard. Needs clutch (included). Without a carb it no longer runs so only moves via human power.
I have the V5 in my name and the keys. Not a lot else!
This was originally a project and then became a donor for my other Sapporo. All I've taken is the front bumper and carb (Solex unit – not too hard to find). Other than the bits that have rusted off it should be fairly complete. I still have the front bumper from mine and its' been repaired but right now I cannot find it, so assume it’s not included but don’t give up hope. It’ll be inside one of my thousands of projects littered across the county as I never throw anything away.
