Advertised on behalf of my accountant. The current lady owner has owned her for over 5 years but now wants a small 'sensible' car to potter around in.
This is a classic Mercedes-Benz open-top cruiser which runs and drives very well but is in need of a little restoration. It comes from the days when Mercs were massively over-engineered and still feels sturdy.
This car took part in the NOVEMBER SUN RUN 2014 which involved driving to the champagne region of France and driving over 500 km's to the Alps D'Huez, it covered this distance without a problem and had been thoroughly prepared and tuned prior to the event.
The soft-top roof is in good condition and the colour coded hard-top is also supplied with the vehicle.
Car has covered 159,485 miles, as regards history - there is only a couple of bills for the recent brake calipers and pads.
The Good :
New rear brake calipers and mintex pads just fitted.
Was fully set-up by a locally renowned tuning bloke last summer.
Road tax is only £230 for 12 months
Mechanically sound for a 35 year old vehicle.
Starts on the button and runs smoothly.
Interior looks very good for its age ( tough stuff that MB-Tex )
Goes like stink !!! And stops just as well !
You get looked/smiled at by everybody , we all want to feel popular !
MOT until 28th September. ( had no advisories last time )
V8 noise and power ( There's no replacement for displacement )
The Bad :
It will need some welding for the next MOT ( the areas have been marked with a crayon ) and would also benefit from some cosmetic tidying, mechanic quoted us £500.
Could do with both front brake pipes replacing due to corrosion ( these are the short ones that go through the inner wings )
Exhaust manifold seal to head blowing but will try to re-seal this.
Passenger door doesn't seem to want to lock ( there are three keys but none seem to want to turn in the lock - might just be seized due to lack of use ? )
A couple of areas of slight bubbling from the usual MB areas and a couple of slight shade variations from previous paint repairs.
Wants n/s/f indicator lens ( £60 from SL shop )
Wants a wiper arm ( £50 SL shop )
Battery isn't the strongest but only 2 years old so is currently on a battery re-conditioner/charger so may be rescued.
Wants a few trim clips for the side kick strips ( they're named kick strips as you cannot get out without kicking em )
Probably wants a new roof seal onto the top of windscreen as the current hard rain is dripping through into the cabin.
Wheels appear to be from a much newer Merc ( depends on your opinion on originality )
I think that may be about it but will edit if i find/remember anything else relevant and may replace images as the vehicle is valeted.
Please do not expect a concours vehicle as they can fetch 10 times this price but we believe it represents a sensible base for light restoration at a bargain price.
Also do not make any offers without first viewing the car and she isn't interested in any swaps ( unless u have a mint Corrado VR6 Storm that u want £1000 for LOL )
