anyone know of a reliable wheel repair company that can check for wheel "trueness".i've got an alloy that had 2 flatspots repaired and then was sucessfully balanced but it still causes big wheel shudder.if it's buggered then fair enough but i really like them and a replacement is unobtainable so would like it checked before i scrap the set. Thanks John.

You can check it yourself, you will need a magnetic stand and a dti, (dial test indicator) available from such as machine mart, fit wheel to car, clamp stand to body, zero indicator, rotate wheel and see how much runout you have, then check an unbuckled wheel to compare Ttfn Glenn

Is it a front or rear wheel ? Have you tried swopping wheels front to rear and seeing if the shudder also moves. Have you ruled out play in wheel bearings, track rod ends, steering rack, rear CV joints/ driveshafts ? Were the wheels balanced off or on the car ?
Hope you find the problem

Its on the front and although not as bad when fitted on the rear you can still feel it. Currently running on std alloys which run with no issues so i guess that rules out wear in any other components. Balanced off the car. John.

Hi, it's not generally the wheel that needs balancing but the tyre. Jack up the car so it's just off the ground and slowly turn the wheel and check to see if the tyre is egg shaped or part of the width is distorted in one place which could mean air is getting into the layered construction of the tyre.

did a dti check with the following results top 2 areas of deviation correspond with the repaired flat spots on back edge but the large lower area has no visible damage on the inner or outer rim. will get tyre off and see what that reveals. John.

With tyre off you could try a friendly tyre place to put the wheel on their balance machine.
