With great regret that due to a change in my commuting circumstances, I am putting my gorgeous 15 year old Mercedes coupe up for sale. It's by far the best put together car I have ever had, which isn't surprising considering it was over £70k when new. I have bought a 530d to do my 130 mile a day commute in, so it's a case of last in, first out.
2000 (X) Mercedes CL500
5 litre V8
306bhp
Automatic with tiptronic
'Almondine Black'
MOT September (passed the last one with zero advisories at 159k)
Fully stamped up service book (last one 23/05/15)
Mileage is 164k (averaging 11k a year), which is nothing for a big Mercedes V8 like this. It drives like half that. My private plate is currently on the car, but I'm in the process of swapping it over onto my 530d, so it'll come with the X plate that was on it when I bought it.
It was serviced just four weeks ago at Staithes Mercedes specialists in Dunston, Gateshead, and I was pleased to hear Phil's comments that it was a good one.
The kit list just goes on and on, and it all works....
Sat-Nav
Dual zone Air-con & climate control
4 x electric windows
Power steering
Power sunroof
Great audio
Trip computer
Double glazing
Auto Wipers
Auto Headlights
Full leather interior
c/w massage facility to both front seats
c/w multi-adjustable power and memory switches
Both front seats heated AND air cooled!
Auto dimming rear view mirror
Power folding wing mirrors
Parking sensors front and rear
Cruise Control
Pillarless, soft/self closing doors
Parrot Bluetooth system fitted
TV - although it needs a digital decoder
Remote boot opening from key fob

I bought this lovely car in March from fellow Retro Rider Glenn...

Since I bought it, I've done 3,000 totally effortless miles. The cabin is such a relaxing place to be. It's just about completely silent in there, with terrific sound proofing and the double glazing. Things I have sorted are:
Both rear tyres replaced - 18" Falkens
Engine bay cleaned down
Paintwork detailed, although not fully finished.
Aircon re-gassed, error cleared, now blowing cold
'A' service 23/05/15
Loose seat controls on door cards fixed 23/05/15
One rear number plate bulb holder broken/corroded - sorted 23/05/15
AMG style front grille fitted, although I do have the original which can go on.
When I say it has been professionally detailed, but not fully finished, it's because it should have been a 2 day job but I only had one spare. As a result, there are still one or two scratches to be seen, although they are quite small, and a few stone chips to the bonnet. I guess no more than you would expect on a car of this age and mileage though.
Other small niggles I have:
Phil at Staithes noticed that there is a small crack on one of the exhausts, but says it's a simple 5 minute weld job to sort it.
Boot hinges corroded (boot lid sits ever so slightly proud on OS) - two new hinges ordered (£65 each from Germany) and will be included in the sale
Rear centre brake light lens broken - new one ordered (£130 from UK stockist) and will be included in the sale
The original 18" Difda alloys are in decent condition, but ideally need referbing at some point.
Glovebox catch missing - it's held shut by velcro strips
NS wing mirror glass is non-Merc, although you wouldn't know unless you were looking for it
Front towing eye cover missing.
One 'Billy bonus' is that because it's pre-2001, the car tax isn't based on emissions, so despite it being a 5 litre V8, it's only £20 a month to tax. How mad is that, but a good mad!
Insurance wise, it cost me £420 a year on my Admiral multi car policy.
With regard to MPG, it is surprisingly good on a run. 30mpg is achievable sat at around 70mph. Around the doors, it'll be more like 20mpg/22mpg. Combined, the trip computer has been running since I got it, and it's staying around 26mpg now. To be honest, you don't buy a car like this if you're looking for an 'economy box', but at the same time, it's perfectly liveable with, especially when you consider there are more than 300 horses under there.
The colour, 'Almondine Black', really is stunning...
There are two working keys, and the V5 is present and in my name.
Some more car pics
And some pics of the history which comes with it....
So, in summary, an absolute beast of a quick car, the V8 sounds fantastic when pushed, but so relaxed and sedate when required as well. A real head turner too.
I'm basically after what I paid for it, £2500, which when you consider it was a £70k car in 2000, is one heck of a car for the money.
Car is located in Teesside (TS12, Saltburn). I am happy to help out in whatever way I can with getting the car and it's new owner together, be that picking people up from railway stations, maybe meeting halfway etc.
Please contact me via private message on here, or on my mobile O796 100 666 seven.
No doubt I've forgotten something, so if there are any questions, or if you require any further information or more pics, just let me know.
Thanks for looking
Chris
